Bette: Does it have an expiry date, because I think I really might need to think about it.
Woman: I'll go ask her.
Kit: (after the woman's gone) You're being pimped! -
Veronica: So why shouldn't I become a lesbian?
Shane: Uh, because women are intense; they're a lot of work that can suck you dry. -
Hunter: I feel that Jenny is to the Midwest as Carson McCullers is to the south. It's, uh, it's gothic, it's grotesque and yet always delivered with self-deprecating humor.

Meryl Rothman: (coming on to Bette) I'm a therapist now. In private practice.
Bette: Oh?
Meryl Rothman: But, uh, I would rather date you than analyze you.
(Bette stares, speechless.)
Meryl Rothman: Call me.
Valerie: (to Bette, after Meryl has gone) You've been meat-tagged. -
Veronica Bloom: Why do people always let you down? No matter how much you have done for them. Don't you find that to be true?
Shane: That's why I... try not to need anything from anyone. -

Jenny: (about Hunter's story) I actually think that it's Henry Miller Lite.
Jenny compares Hunter's story to those of American writer Henry Miller (1891-1980). Since the story is clearly a feeble copy of Miller-esque themes, she calls it "Miller Lite" -- a reference to the light beer by the same name.

Venus de Mylar
The name of the drag queen in Jenny's story is a pun of Venus de Milo, a classical piece of ancient Greek sculpture, and Mylar, polyester film used in e.g. balloons. -
