  • Stanley finds a girlfriend and a dog, but Ollie has something else in mind...

This film is often cited as the beginning of the Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy collaboration. If you count this as a true Laurel and Hardy film, then it is easily one of the weakest. Many of the gags are drawn out far longer than need be, such as when Stan is nearly hit by a streetcar. Others, such as the landlady trying to beat up Stan are just not funny and poorly crafted. A few are funny, particularly the scenes with Ollie, who despite playing a crook, gets some funny scenes as visiting foreigner Count de Chease. Overll just a skeleton of Laurel and Hardy work, with much better stuff to come.moreless
