The Lazarus Man is the story of a man who, in the fall of 1865, woke up buried in a shallow grave outside the town of San Sebastian, Texas, not remembering who he was, or why someone would want to bury him. He sets out on the journey to find these answers, along the way meeting people who still want to kill him, and fragments of memory about the night President Lincoln was killed, not knowing if he was in on the plot. Robert Urich, who played the lead role of James "Lazarus" Cathcart, announced toward the end of the production run of the season that he had Synovial Cell Sarcoma, a rare form of cancer that attacks the joints of the body. Two months after announcing he had cancer and would have to have treatments, Castle Rock Television canceled The Lazarus Man, according to Urich, because of the cancer. He sued for what he would have made for the second season and the case was settled out of court. Urich continued to appear on numerous TV shows and star in two other series before passing away in 2002.
