Paul Burke (Naked City, Twelve O'Clock High) played Captain Thomson, who has been passed over for promotion several times. Thomson is up for promotion again, and if he is not promoted this time he will be forced to retire for being too long in grade. Richard Anderson played Thomson's commanding officer Lt. Colonel Hiland who must make the decision about the promotion. Hiland was an old friend of Thomson who started in the Marines at the same time but who has been promoted more often. Hiland was a recurring character in the series.
Linda Evans played Colonel Hiland's daughter, who may be romantically interested in Bill Rice.
Richard Anderson played Colonel Hiland without his toupee, which was rare for him.
Richard Anderson also worked with Paul Burke on Twelve O'Clock High. Anderson had the recurring role of General Dowd who was one of Colonel Joe Gallagher's commanding officers. Burke played Coloned Gallagher, of course. General Dowd was a flying/fighting general, like the late General Savage (Robert Lansing).
Gary Lockwood guest stared twice the next season on Twelve O'Clock High with Robert Lansing. Lockwood went from playing Second Lieutenant Bill Rice to playing Major Gus Denver. Lockwood was excellent. Lockwood also guest starred once on a Paul Burke episode of Twelve O'Clock High.
Richard Anderson replaced Robert Lansing on Kung Fu: The Legend Continues when Lansing became too ill to continue.
