  • Rip Torn in fine form as a zealous DI.

Rip Torn gave a brilliant performance as a drill sergeant who is suspected of going over the top in making training realistic. Lt. Bill Rice is assigned to go undercover as a boot camp trainee to determine Torn's competence. It made for an exciting episode.

Ex-army officer Rip Torn was dazzling as the drill sergeant. After this episode aired, Torn was a hot property as a TV drama guest-star. Torn gave great performances in a wide variety of roles on "The Eleventh Hour", "The Great Adventure","Combat", "The Breaking Point", "Dr. Kildare", "Twelve O'Clock High", and other shows.

Richard Rust was also good as a wise guy Marine recruit who is undergoing basic training under Torn. Rust had starred with Edmund O'Brien the previous season on the lawyer show "Sam Bendedict". "The Lieutenant" replaced "Sam Benedict" on Saturday nights at 7:30.moreless
