The Little Lulu Show

Show Summary

In Peeksil, New York there is a girl named Lulu Moppet. She and her gang of friends are always getting into trouble, solving mysteries, studying, doing something at school, or just hanging out. Lulu's father George is always sitting on the couch watching television, and bribing Lulu with money to do his duties, although Martha (Lulu's mom) always catches him. Lulu's best friend Annie is as smart as Lulu and helps Lulu in her plans to get revenge on Tubby and the fellers. Then there is Iggie, Tubby, Willie, Eddie, and Alvin who are members of The East Side Club and there are the rich couple Wilbur Van Snobbe and Gloria Darling. The Little Lulu Show lasted for for 3 seasons, 52 episodes. Each episode was formatted with three, 7-minute stories, and two 60-second short films. Though The Little Lulu Show premiered in 1995, what you little kids may not know is that Little Lulu and friends first saw the light of day almost 70 years ago. In 1935, Marjorie Henderson Buell brought to the world the first Little Lulu comic strip. Since then Little Lulu, Tubby, Annie, and the rest of the gang have made appearances in comic books, commercials, short cartoons, and many other forms of media. If you'd like to read some Little Lulu comics,...click here These cartoons (many of them, at least) are 50-to-60-year-old stories, animated versions of the Little Lulu comic books from the 1940's and 50's. (John Stanley, who's been dead for years already, wrote the stories--though he did it as an employee of the comic book publisher and was never credited.) So that makes it even more remarkable how good they are! First Telecast: November 11, 1995 Last Telecast: February 21, 1999 Show Type: Animated Comedy Episodes: 52 color episodes. The Characters Lulu: Feisty, resourceful, the plucky Lulu truely is a star. Lulu is not only a little girl, but a stand-up comedian. Lulu, we love you-lu just the same! Tubby Tubby lives up to his name. Decked-out as a little sailor, Tubby may be Lulu's friend, but he can be a real practical joker too. Not too bright either. Annie: Annie is Lulu's best girlfriend (and no, not "gay" girl friends). Annie is younger than Lulu, but is a faithful little sidekick. Older sister to Iggie. Iggie: One of the "fellers". Iggie is a member of Tubby's club. Iggie's no brighter than Tubby, but can be quite standoffish. Little brother to Annie. Willie: Another member of Tubby's club. He's the oldest of the gang. Eddie: Yet another member of Tubby's club. Hangs out with Willie. Alvin: The little pest of the neighborhood. He's always scheming his way into making Lulu tell him a story. Wilbur: The richest and most rotten kid in town. In fact, his last name tells just what a "Van Snobbe" he is. Gloria: The prettiest girl in town, who the fellers all go "gaga" for. Officer McNabb: The British patrolman of the town. The Westside Boys: The biggest, meanest bullies from the Westside of town. They're always terrorising Tubby and the club. George and Martha: Lulu's parents. Martha is a doting mother, while George is always sneaking out of his chores. Trivia -Little Lulu first appeared in "The Saturday Evening Post" in 1935. -There was an unsuccessful TV attemp in the 1970's called "Little Lulu and Friends". -Wilbur Van Snobbe's original name was "Wilber Van Snobble". -Jane Woods and Bruce Dinsmore also lended their voice talents to Wimzie's House. -Annie was supposed to be a preschooler, but why would Lulu hang out with a preschooler? -Lulu's parents aren't the only cartoon couple with the names "George and Martha".moreless
