Do you believe in magic?
Is magic the opposite of science or a "celebration of the unexplainable" as Dame Alice puts it. To listen to Dame Alice, science and magic use the same forces. I liked the three self-introductions
Dame Alice: "I'm a witch."
Challenger: "a scientist"
Marguerite" "a skeptic"
This has not been a good day
Roxton better forget this one. He falls for the old 'Look over there' trick. Then as the new bolder Malone rashly follows the young witches, he hangs back, the voice of caution "it's probably the last place we want to visit" "the bottom of the trap, you mean", "we're heading into trouble, Malone. I don't like it." "We're wasting our time here" How Marguerite-like!
He blinded me with science
"Your fearsome magic cannot be tamed by science." cries Dame Alice to her supernatural leader. Well, thanks to Challenger it can, for a minute. Interesting the radio wave reference. I sometimes think that is the connecting theme from Season 1-3 -the radio waves that ultra-Challenger receives in Absolute Power. By this episode he's focussing on E-M waves and season 4 was supposed to have a radio-based episode. The lines of power on the plateau could be electromagnetic and it appears to be the base of Dame Alice's magic as well.
Things that make you go hmmm
"I flew." "Yeah, and I can speak in tongues." Poor analogy Marguerite. Not only has she been possessed and had a demon speak through her, she also has the special power to translate any language.
The star in the centre of the castle. The star in the locket around Dame Alice's neck was a pentagram -the shape most always associated with witches. But the star on the floor was a 9-sided shape (3 triangles) and surrounded by rune-line characters similar to the ones left in the Layton's journal. Clue? Coincidence?
The wicca thing - the young witches put me in mind of Willow and Tara (Buffy the Vampire Killer). As Roxton says as the witches fly off arm-in-arm "so much for a night of wild celebration"
Final scene -Interesting that a woman in the 13th century who had 4 husbands is known through history by her maiden name "Dame Alice de Kyteler" alleged husband killer. A medieval 'Black Widow'?
Great lines
It's the George and Marguerite show
G"Let's run for it." M "What kind of a plan is that?"
M"When I use my imagination, it's not for raptors."
C "She just saved us from a T. rex. Let's not be uncharitable."
M "You're just lucky I didn't sleep in this morning. C:(with a look of amazement) "You'd do that for me?"
Wonderful moments. Forgettable show.moreless
