Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • The show at the end of the episode featured alcohol consumption and kissing--very adult themes for a PTA benefit.

    • In the original script, there was a scene where the Ricardos and Milton are chasing down the pages from Mr. Berle's manuscript that the wind blew all over Central Park. The scene was later cut from the script because of time constraints.

  • QUOTES (3)

    • (Lucy comes onstage dressed as an Indian and making noises)
      Milton: How.
Lucy: Easy. Just put-em hand to mouth and go--(making noises)
Milton: Ask-em silly question, get-em silly answer.

    • Ricky: Look. I don't care what you promised, but I don't want you using my name to get anybody for any benefit. You understand?
      Lucy: Yes sir.
Ricky: All right. Gotta go to work.
Lucy: Work? At this hour in the morning?
Ricky: We're doing a new show, so this week I'll only be working days.
      Lucy: Oh.
Ethel: (entering the Ricardo's living room) Lucy. Oh hi, Rick.
      Ricky: Hi.
Ethel: What happened with Milton Berle? Did you get him, did you get him?
Lucy: No. The secretary wouldn't even put me through to him. Says he was working on his new book.
      Ethel: Oh, dear.
      Ricky: Goodbye.
      Lucy: So long, Seymour.
      Ricky: Huh?
Lucy: You told me you didn't want me to use your name.
(Ricky mutters in Spanish and leaves)

    • Ricky: Lucy!
      Lucy: (startled) Oh! Good morning.
Ricky: What were you doing using my name to try to get to Milton Berle?
Lucy: I wasn't using your name. I was using my name--Mrs. Ricky Ricardo.
      Ricky: (yelling) That's my name.
Lucy: Well, you sure are grouchy this morning, Mrs. Ricardo. Anyway, it didn't work. Maybe you ought to change your name.

  • NOTES (3)

    • The Arnazes reciprocated Berle's appearance on their show by appearing on The Milton Berle Special, which aired November 1, 1959 on NBC.

    • Jerry Thorpe, who had been directing the recent Lucy-Desi specials, was busy with other Desilu assignments, so Desi took on the direction of the show. This was yet another burden on the shoulders of the head of Desilu, host of their high-prestige show (Desilu Playhouse), and co-star of their highest-rated series--The Lucy-Desi Comedy Show. Due to his busy schedule, filming in front of a live studio audience was dropped.

    • Before filming this episode, Lucy and Desi had just returned from a European cruise--a last-ditch attempt to save their failing marriage.
