Show Summary

Quentin Coldwater is a high school senior, but he’s still secretly obsessed with a series of fantasy novels he read when he was little, about the adventures of five children in a magical land called Fillory. Compared to that, everything in his real life just seems gray and colorless. That changes when Quentin finds himself admitted to a very secret, very exclusive college of magic in upstate New York, where he receives a thorough and rigorous education in the practice of modern sorcery.

But, magic doesn’t bring Quentin the happiness and adventure and meaning he thought it would—until he and his friends make a stunning discovery: Fillory is real.

The Magicians is based on book one of author Lev Grossman's bestselling trilogy: The Magicians, The Magician King, The Magician's Land.  Although the series official premieres January 25, 2016, the entire first episode was shown commercial free on Wednesday, December 16 at 10 p.m. Eastern Time/9 p.m Central Time.

    • Finally something to watch on syfy after Eureka

glad to see syfy getting their syfy touch back
    • They broke every rule on successful shows

I started watching the show because I watch any fantasy or extreme fiction show and then just identified myself with Quentin the Obnoxious! It started being sick, eerily slow in development and totally nerve wrecking! Childish, tangled up, fetishist and many times just a huge teen/post-teen I am addicted to it. I get withdrawal symptoms, even thinking I will have soon to wait a whole year for the next episode! They risked by waiting to pickup pace after 3rd episode and now we have our heroic anti-heroes literally diving to the unknown with minimal preparation and knowledge to face an invincible enemy and its so much FUN! and since I am an immature middle aged guy I must add it has boobs that make me wish were there for my near-20 year old series!moreless
    • Most underrated series ever

I started watching this show with great skepticism. New found magic school? But it has absolutely blown me away. I love the characters, story line, everything. I love it so much that I can't even binge it, I watch one or two episodes once in a while because I do no not want it to end. If you like scifi that is rough around the edges with a hint of humor, this is your show!moreless
    • Missing the magic touch...

The show definitely has potential and ambitions. It has something to share with its viewers, too. The problem is that the show fails to communicate its spirit with the viewers and consequently fails to deliver the climate of the genre.

It's not a bad show, but it definitely needs work to improve - because it can be improved!!!
    • Impressed with the writing

Still digging this show, and am impressed with the subtlety of the writing and acting, as well as useful portrayals of interpersonal dynamics and issues of character and life choices. Highly recommend this.
