  • A Good start to the Infamous Third Season that promised to consolidate the series global success but soon descended into something completely different.

If only all of the Third Season episodes were like this. When the Third Season premiered Man from UNCLE was already a global phenomenon and you could see by this episode that the series had achieved level of self-confidence. The sets seemed bigger, the photography sharper, the music more confident. Each of the supporting characters was treated with some level of respectability and motivation and it was good to see Napoleon and Illya actually interacting with their respective supporting characters. Yes there are some silly moments (Solo being chased by school girls) but it isn't self consciously silly as other episodes that followed and the silly moments are tempered by some romantic interplay between solo and Verity Burgoyne and comedy romance between Illya and Miki. UNCLE worked best when it is inclusive – sharp dialogue, witty situations and snappy action. This episode probably would not compete against the best of the series but I think it breathed new life into a series that began to wilt at the end of the second season. Unfortunately the more ludicrous and self-mocking elements quickly overtook the series soon after this episode.
