  • Not only is this a fun episode, it's a learning experience as well.

While "The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack" is set in an alternate reality and not our own, some similarities are shared between these two realities. In T.M.M.o.F., many denizens of this world believe in sea monsters (which in Flapjack's Marvelous Misadventures, actually exist.) They also believe there's an edge of the world that sailors will go over if they venture too far west. But one thing that nobody should ever do is drink the salty water of the ocean because it can make any sane person crazy with delusions of grandeur or any other symptoms of insanity. Disease is a problem that also affects "Flapjack's" world as well as our own. Such a disease is the Plague. It's strange that despite the fact that the rat who had the fleas which spread the Plague was in constant contact with Flapjack and Bubbie, they still never got sick! But I've really got nothing to complain about. A good cartoon is still a good cartoon, and this appears to be a good cartoon. I sure hope that there are more good episodes waiting to come out for this show. Enough said, true believers! ;)moreless

This is truly a series classic!it lives up to it's name, the marvelous misadventures of flapjack, flapjack went on an adventure, but it was a misadventure.I do have a feeling candied island has a path, threw the west, and the sea of teeth. Also,we get to see flapjacks adventurer side, bubbie was right, his listening skills weren't very good, but his spirit of adventure was!and again we get to see more of flapjack's world. This was the most adventurous episode yet, with some funny moments,a true flapjack episode.

I actually have nothing bad to say about this episode,it was perfect,a truly amazing episode, and a series classic, funny and exploritive, and adventurous!

I really hope for another episode like this!moreless

  • TRIVIA (2)

  • QUOTES (18)

    • Bubbie: K'NUCKLES! Have you been letting my baby drink sea water?!?
K'nuckles: Oh... that, uh... we're not supposed to?

    • K'nuckles: There is no more compass. I sold it for maple syrup. Happy birthday, Flapjack. Cheers!

    • K'nuckles: I'm losing my over-all enthusiasm. See, this is my last pair!
Choir: Overall enthusiasm, overall enthusiasm, overall enthusiasm, yeee-haaaw!

    • Bubbie: Open it up!
Flapjack: Oh my goodness! Ha...haha ha ha ha ha!
      Choir: It's a pencil!

    • K'nuckles: (after Candied Island sinks and everything goes red) It's the end of the world!

    • Flapjack: Wow. Nobody in Stormalong can live without me. I never felt so loved.
K'nuckles: Well, I may have misled you there, Flap. You see, we literally can't live without you. See, the doctor needs your blood to make an antidote.
Flapjack: Oh, well. It's nice to be needed.
Dr. Barber: Don't you mean, it's nice to be "needled?" (holds up a big needle)

    • Sea Creature: Oh, look, Martha. Tandem travelers accompanied by a floating whale.

    • Dr. Barber: Flapjack, can I see your friend there?
      Flapjack: Why?
Dr. Barber: Umm...I wish to cut him open.
      Flapjack: What?!
Dr. Barber: No! Without pain of course. No pain at all. Why, it would be just like...like a haircut!
      Flapjack: What?!
Dr. Barber: No! Not like a haircut. There will be a carcus of course but...oh dear.

    • Flapjack: If danger was a beautiful woman, I'd marry her.

    • Bubbie: Here, baby. (gives Flapjack a "W", but he sees it as an "M")
      Flapjack: An "M" for misguided?
      Bubbie: Turn it over.
Flapjack: (turns it over and gasps) It's a "W"!

    • Flapjack: It's always perfection when you know your directions. No more wasted rowing 'cause I'm knowing where I'm going!!

    • Flapjack: Don't drink out of the ocean, K'nuckles! Sea water makes you crazy! Look at me! I've been drinking it for hours!
K'nuckles: You don't look crazy to me!
Flapjack: Really? (laughs and babbles insanely)
K'nuckles: And your laugh sounds healthy, too.

    • Flapjack: I'll never say west again!
(a giant eel creature eats the weirdo in the background)

    • Flapjack: Hi, Dr. Barber! I don't need surgery or a haircut.
Dr. Barber: Hmm, yes. Then what do you need?
      Flapjack: Your friendship.
      Dr. Barber: For how long?
Flapjack: Until one of us dies.
      Dr. Barber: Hmm... I'll pass.

    • K'nuckles: Flapjack, rats are bad luck.
Flapjack: (laughs) You're just saying that 'cause he likes to flick fleas on people he doesn't like.
K'nuckles: (takes a step back) How long has he been doing that?
      Flapjack: All day!

    • Dr. Barber: Hmm. Good news, sir. You have the plague.
Man: But why is that good news?
Dr. Barber: Because now I can conduct medical experiments. (laughs) Also, you could use a haircut.

    • Mysterious Person: Do you want a french fry?

    • Flapjack: This is the West birthday ever!

  • NOTES (5)

  • ALLUSIONS (4)

    • Eel Creature
The eel creature that ate the weirdos in the background is similar to the eel that ate the frogfish in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie.

    • Elf
K'nuckles' maple syrup addition is similar to Buddy's pancake syrup addition on the movie, Elf.

    • The Bubonic Plague
The Plague caught by many of the characters in "K'nuckles Is a Filthy Rat" shares many similarities with the historical Black Death disease which wiped out 25% of the people who caught it in Europe from 1300-1600. They were both spread by disease-ridden fleas on rats; symptoms included boils, warts, pimples, tongue bumps, and saggy skin; and often, the only known solution for dealing with these diseases was isolation.

    • Episode Title
The title of the episode segment "How the West Was Fun" shares the same name as the 1995 direct-to-video feature How the West Was Fun starring Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen, while the plot refers to the historical time before 1492, where sailors actually thought that by going west, they ran the risk of running into sea monsters and sailing off a 'supposed' edge of Earth.
