  • All About Sue Ann

A great episode that borrows a lot from the classic movie 'All About Eve', but who cares if it's well done. Some of the sitcoms of the seventies tend to be a bit too sugary for today's audience, but not this one. There are plenty of witty one-liners and the story ends with the evil Sue Ann winning out. Of course, it's Betty White who really makes it all work. I had forgotten about her role in the show, knowing her mostly from The Golden Girls. It's a bit of a shock then to see her enjoy being nasty like this.

On a different note, it took me a few minutes to recognize the actress playing Gloria. Linda Kesley would turn up again in the Mary Tyler Moor spin-off 'Lou Grant', but as a different character.moreless

Sue Ann: Oh, Mary, how well you put things! His protégé. I do like that word. Protégé. From the French, meaning 'Your place or mine?'

    • Georgette: Why is Mr. Schroeder giving her (Gloria) her own baking spot on your show?
Sue Ann: I don't know, dear. Perhaps he has a weakness for tarts.
