A strange episode, this one, which might explain the low rating it gets on this site. To enjoy it you have to accept the idea that Lou Grant might send a chain letter. An explanation is given (one of Lou's broadcasting heroes is on the list), but it remains a stretch. Halfway through, it changes into a rather classic comedy about a woman trying to get rid of two unwanted suitors. Again, the characters are exaggerated. We are expected to believe that Mary is just too nice to turn down an invitation from a pushy man who keeps repeating he's divorced, just because it's his birthday.
If the episode is saved, it's because of Rhoda and a rather funny scene with the travelling salesman.
