  • Good exploration of a difference of opinion between Baxter and Grant.

Ted's contract dispute leads him into the world of commercials.

A nice episode, noteworthy because of the struggle between Ted Baxter and Lou Grant -- with Mary mostly caught in the crossfire. Upset at contract negotiations, Ted consults a lawyer and realizes that he has other options for outside income. While originally ludicrous to the WJM staff, as Ted believes that he has full rights to "movie deals and Broadway shows", it becomes all too real when he instead opts to star in commercials as degrading as those that make up many "infomercials" today -- including vegetable slicers and and women's products. Its particularly funny to see Lou crestfallen as he realizes that there isn't anything he can do about it.

Overall well-written and funny, if only for the fact that Ted makes good on a promise to do something different with the results of his work on television for everyone to see.moreless
