Suzanne, with Phyllis a close runner-up.

Murray. He was so obnoxious, especially toward Ted.

Murray wasdefinitely irksome. I never cared for the fact that he wasa married man with a thinly veiled crush on Mary.

I always liked Murray. His crush on Mary was rather sweet, imho. I mean, of course he was married. But as my mom used to say "I'm married, not dead." Just because you're married, that doesn't mean that you will never find another person attractive or desirable. Murray probably would've pursued Mary if he was single. But he was content with worshipping her from afar.

I don't dislike any of the MTM characters. But sometimes I got annoyed with the overall behavior of the men. They interferred in Mary's life a bit too much. For example, when she dated the younger man, they ALL had an opinion. It bothered me that no one mntioned the fact that Ted was old enough to be Georgette's father!

I changed my mind. I've been watching it regularly again on DVD, and Phyllis definitely takes the prize for worst character. I inwardly groan every time she walks into the room...however, I am still in Season One. Maybe she gets easier to take as the show develops, I can't remember.

Wow, all of these Phyllis haters! If I had to deal with/live near her in real life, I'd probably go insane, but on the show I can appreciate her personality, as it's the perfect balance to Rhoda's character. She is phenomenal in the season 4 episode "The Lars Affair". That's one of my all-time favorite episodes!

My pick for least favorite character might have to go to Ted. (I'm sure people are ready to burn me at the stake for that!) Of course, he's funny, but sometimes I can't tolerate just how stupid he is. I think of him the same way I think of Jack on Will & Grace, they are both funny characters played very well by talented actors, but sometimes their characters' stupidity impedes their humor.

By Suzanne, did you mean Sue Ann?

Oops, yes. I meant Sue Ann Nivens. It's been over ten years since I've seen episodes with her in them, but wasn't she ironically a prototype for the real-life Martha Stewart! (minus perhaps, her smothering crush on Lou)

No way I would do without the Phyllis/Rhoda dynamic...

I WANT to like Murray, but in contrast to when I watched the shows when they first ran, when I watch reruns many of his digs on Ted aren't really as funny as I remember them.

Sue Ann. Phyllis was annoying, but i honestly don't think she even realized how rude she was, but Sue Ann was the one i wanted to see Mary belt.

I stand by my earlier declaration of Sue Anne, but in watching Seasons One and Two on DVD again, I have to say I really don't like how Murray treats Ted. He's non-stop nasty to him, and every time he opens his mouth it's to demean him. Granted, Ted is dumb and also full of himself. But he's not cruel. I think Murray's pretty ugly to him, certainly moreso than he needs to be.

Phyllis. Never could quite see the point of that character. I suppose she's meant to be the married housewife who looks down on the single girls, but she was just extra mean.

I dont know if I have a least favorite character. They were all wonderful, original characters. If there was a character who presence I probaly could live without more than the others, it would be Phyllis.

When the show was live, I wasn't crazy about Ted or his wife, but I'm more tolerant of both now. Phyllis is ok in short doses.
