  • The team pulls together for Ted

The situation at the end is only one that can happen on TV, and it's funny! With one person in the room asking ridiculous questions, the staff of WJM, acting as the faculty of "TBFBS", come back with even more ridiculous answers in response. The episode started off a little slow, but the B-plot of Mary's date from New York (set up by Rhoda's mother, no less), comes together nicely at the end. His questions to Mary seem pretty normal for a first day, but this is no normal first day. His seemingly obliviousness to the situation they're all in adds to the silliness of the whole episode. Some funny moments: Ted sings his school song and Lou Grant's contemptuous expression, as answers the students question about grades.moreless

    • Lou: Ted, there's only one guy in your school.
Ted: Ya think the rest of 'em are out sick?

    • Ted: That was Mary Richards, our dean of women. So, in conclusion, let me just say this. Tonight, you have taken that first step on that long and exciting journey to being a broadcaster. Work hard, study hard, and remember, you are the Ted Baxters of tomorrow. Ah, one final question.
Student: Can I still get my three hundred dollars back?

    • Murray: Ted, you should have known better than to trust a man whose business card lists aliases.

    • Ted: This guy is setting up a school for broadcasters and he wants to use my name! The Ted Baxter's Famous Broadcasting' School! And it's going to be right here in Minneapolis! Could spread all over the country.
Murray: Unless they find a vaccine for it.

    • Lou: What is it now, Ted?
Ted: Aw, Lou. How come everytime I come here to say something you say 'what is it now, Ted?' like I'm going to say something dumb?
Lou: How come everytime I see a duck, I expect it to quack?
Ted: No, no you answer my question first.
