  • Lou Grant Offers His Stance on Fidelity.

This episode surprisingly scored low here on this site in general opinion, but it ranks among the most memorable for me in some ways. First of all, I love Lou Grant's devotion to his wife Edie, which once again comes out in this episode. His defense of being a one-woman man is articulated in his usual gruffness, and simply melts me when I hear the little talk he has with his son-in-law, whom he caught getting ready to cheat. I also like the subject matter that is dealt with here, and the allusions to the different sides of the culture war that really began full-fledge in the beginning of the 1970s. The humor and dialogue to which we're treated is also fantastic, and I love the dynamic that is present when Lou, Mary, and Rhoda are all brought together. Watching Lou trying to come to terms with his wrath is also an interesting study: it's amazing how much we can love and sympathize with him, even more so when he's biting everyone's head off in the newsroom!
