Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • Look Closely: During the scene when Taniguchi tries to persuade Kyon and Kunikida to hit on girls with him, Haruhi and Yuki can be seen running in the background for a brief moment, already carrying their instruments. This gives a rough time frame for just when the two were asked to fill in for the missing members.

  • QUOTES (2)

    • Taniguchi: In any case... I acted in your film without getting paid and even took a dive into water and my compensation for getting soaked is thirty percent off fried soba. Doesn't seem quite fair.
Kyon: Don't come if you don't like it. Get lost.
Taniguchi: (Excited) But man... You've gotta worship Asahina in her costume atleast once.

    • (After the peformance in the cultural festival)
Haruhi: If there had been one more day I could have been better prepared. I kind of wonder if that was really good enough. How should I put it... I started questioning what I'm doing with my life. (Long pause) I can't seem to calm down. I wonder why...
Kyon: How would I know? (In his mind) It's because... you're not so used to being appreciated by other people. You're always doing things that wouldn't warrant a thank you.

  • NOTES (3)

    • For a majority of the concert scene in which "God Knows..." and "Lost My Music" is performed, animators used a technique known as Rotoscoping in which live action footage is traced over for use in animated works. Members of the Japanese band "Diamond Head" Susumu Nishikawa as well as Takeshi Taneda and Yutaka Odawara were filmed playing guitar, bass and drums in real life for this purpose.

    • Chronologically, this is the 12th episode of the series. It is the only time Kyon's and Haruhi's episode numbering match up.

    • The titles of the two songs Haruhi performs are "God Knows..." and "Lost My Music".

  • ALLUSIONS (2)

    • ENOZ: The all female group that performed in the episode, ENOZ, is a reference to an actual J-Pop female band, Zone ("Enoz" spelled backwards). Zone began in 1999 and was officially disbanded on April 1, 2005, meaning the group was already inactive by the start of this series' airing.

    • The play: Itsuki is playing the role of Guildenstern in Tom Stoppard's "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead".
