Ah, the hostage crisis. An episode that every show is forced to have or, in The Mentalist's case, have multiple times. The thing is though that these episodes are more often than not good, and this one was no exception. You had some great scenes inside the building and a good use of the rest of the cast outside of it. There are some procedurals where the supporting cast has a voice and that's great (NCIS etc.) but there are some where it is best not to focus on them too heavily (Castle etc.) and The Mentalist needs to find a middle ground. I have no problem with Cho and Rigsby being serious and helping out the issue, but keep the banter between them down to a minimum please.

Good episode though. One of the strongest of the season.moreless

  • QUOTES (11)

    • Jane: Teresa Lisbon, toughest gal west of the Pecos and you're scared of a small town mayor and his wife.

      Lisbon: Oh, hush.

    • Jane: Underling? Really? Lisbon would you explain to this man I'm--

      Lisbon: You need to stop.

      Jane: I'm a consultant.

      Lisbon: He's a consultant.

Jane: I'm not below or above.

      Lisbon: Shh, shh.

Jane: I am to the side.

      Lisbon: That's enough.

    • Bertram: Are you familiar with the regulations regarding agents giving anonymous statements to the press?

Lisbon: CBI employees shall not give anonymous or "off the record" statements to members of the media.

Bertram: And what are the repercussions of said violation?

      Lisbon: Suspension or termination.

Bertram: Yes... However, both the Bagshaws are happy. Everyone's alive. We caught the killer.

      Lisbon: Yes, sir.

Bertram: See, you... you find the right lever, agent, and you can move the world. You found the right lever. That was a smart play. I hope you stay smart.

    • Lisbon: What's that?

Jane: This.. this is my speeding ticket that I refuse to pay.

Lisbon: Well, I'm not paying it.

Jane: Well, then I guess no one's gonna pay.

Lisbon: I'll get Bertram to pay it.

Jane: How are you gonna do that?

      Lisbon: I have my ways.

    • Officer Rowley: I'd like an apology.

Jane: Oh, really? Dream bigger, pal. You're not gonna get one from me.

    • (Jane is pulled over for speeding)

Sgt. Rowley: I need your license and proof of insurance.

Jane: I'd love to, but we got a murder to solve. Evidence degrading, killers perfecting their alibis. First 48 hours.. You know that, right?

Sgt. Rowley: License and proof of insurance.

Jane: I mean, is this really necessary? Aren't we all part of the Justice League? Do you think Aquaman would give Batman a ticket? Just consider that.

    • Chief Nail: Your man ignored a reasonable request from my officer and fled.

Lisbon: He will pay the ticket.

Jane: Meh. Speed traps. Legalized extortion. You want people to slow down? Park out in the open, where they can see you. But no, you lay in wait, like thieves in the night.

Lisbon: He will pay the ticket today.

Jane: I'm not gonna pay it.

    • Lisbon: Bertram wants regular updates. Somebody involved in this case must be connected.

Rigsby: Well, maybe we'll get lucky, catch a dunk. We're due an easy one.

Lisbon: Ugh, you shouldn't have said that.

      Rigsby: Said what?

Lisbon: "We're due an easy one". Now we're jinxed.

      Rigsby: Sorry.

    • Lisbon: Don't worry. We're dropping you at City Hall so you can pay that speeding ticket.

Jane: I thought I made my feelings very, uh, clear on that particular subject...

Lisbon: Which is why I told Chief Nail if you don't pay it by noon tomorrow, he's free to get a bench warrant for your arrest. We're citizens, too. We're not above the law.

Jane: Oh, well, thanks for that, Gandhi. What I don't appreciate is this cheap police state tactics.

      Lisbon: Whatever works.

    • Jane: Patrick Jane, CBI. I'm on the way to a crime scene.

Officer Rowley: Do you know how fast you were going, sir?

Jane: Do I get a prize if I guess correctly?

    • Chief Nail: And just so you know, I get it. CBI's in charge. We're here to assist.

Lisbon: Thanks, Chief. We don't always get a welcome.

Chief Nail: Well, I said I get it. I didn't say I liked it.
