Not so much about this episode, as about the 'new' characters. They don't really 'work' for me. Seeing Van Pelt and Rigsby again felt like finding an oasis in a desert. The thing that riles me up is that we get to see far, FAR too much of Kim Fischer. She seems to have supplanted Lisbon, especially on Jane's excursions, and I resent it - not to mention that it falls flat. As regards the rest of the newbies... Who? Instantly forgettable. I'm not sure whether they brought in too many new characters at a time, or whether the chemistry is to blame, but this isn't how I'd visualised the show developing after the (very welcome, for my part) identification of Red John.

I know they have changed the story setting but they need to figure out a way to get the core characters working together again. The best part of this episode was Cho and Rigsby working together. And why is Jane teamed with Kim all the time now. Is it because the writers like the whole Jane exasperates partner bit and it won't fly with Lisbon anymore?

Jane has always been able to push Lisbon's buttons and the fact she can call him on that is what makes their partnership work so well.

As I said in my review above, I believe Heller is setting it up such that Lisbon gets so fed up with Jane's attitude that she willingly accepts the advances of another guy.

Unfortunately, the new guys time on the show seems to have been made open ended, so his time with Lisbon might very well run to the end of this series.

If it does, I think many core viewers will desert the show and that will be it's death knell.

* Well, when a show starts to get stale, they always try something to "mix it up". Their attempt wasn't great, though. I agree with the comment, below, about cold, heartless people at the new digs. I think they felt they needed more conflict and since the original team had finally bonded and worked out all their issues, they needed new ones.

Already, we see signs of the new team warming up.

* The lawyer scene was just stupid. Questions about a crime is not harassment and there was no need to offer a pretend apology.

* I miss Jane doing "mentalisty" things. He hasn't really done much of it, at all, for months. He's more like Columbo, tricking people into showing their guilt.

I AM finding the new arc interesting, though. And, I don't want to see the show get canceled.

In general terms, I agree with you apart from the "new team warming up" comment.

Unless of course, your definition of warm is ~0.5 degrees Kelvin :)

The only member of the "new team" is Wiley IMHO. The rest are a waste of space (Cho excepted, of course).

I like that they are trying to set up a bigger case in the background again, even though the show is likely to get cancelled.

I still enjoy the show and I do hope it gets renewed. The concept overall is still interesting and has stories to tell. This one was the best of the episodes in the post-RJ era, imho.

I've always believed the show would be perfectly OK as a procedural, as they've used that theme on a good few occasions.

Unfortunately, what I didn't count on is that;
1) the team would be broken up by the departure of Rigsby & Van Pelt.

2) the basic chemistry of the original team would be discarded in favour of this cold unfeeling bunch that surround Jane & Lisbon, now.

3) Jane & Lisbon get separated to further some stupid Lisbon/A.N.Other liaison when she has quite obviously from the first couple of shows after the "2 years" separation maintained an interest in Jane. Looks like, if in doubt, chuck some angst in the mix!

I too, hope the show gets renewed but the way it's going right now, Heller is going to so alienate the shows' core followers, that they will desert in droves from a show that has never really had enough support in the past to ensure its' renewal.
