  • Worth seeing; if not just for the guest appearance by Norm MacDonald....

    7.5
"The Play" is a very good episode of The Middle - a lot of funny lines and situations play out from beginning to end. The main thematic point is played out in the storyline that involves Sue and Frankie's involvement with the "Wizard of Oz" community play. Sue is fired from the play and Frankie is stuck with the dilemma of leaving the play to support Sue or staying in the play, which has given her a new lease on life. One can imagine this storyline being quite entertaining - and it is.

However, the best part of the episode is the storyline involving Brick bonding with his Uncle Rusty, played by Norm MacDonald.

Now, Norm MacDonald has long been my favorite comedian - so I will admit that I am biased - but his part of the episode was my favorite. After Mike scolds Uncle Rusty for leaving Brick hanging on "Special Friends Day," saying that Rusty has to make it up to Brick, Rusty takes Brick out of school for a day of doing things that Brick's folks would abhor! Hilarity ensues - not just because of clever writing but because of the many Normisms that populate this episode.moreless
