One of the funniest episodes of this(or any other) series, "Lo-Cal Munster" is a showcase for the acting and comedy genius of Fred Gwynne. Whether it's his sadness and frustration at not being able to fit into his old army uniform, his incredibly timed comments while on the diet(Herman after a delicious dinner of vitamins-and-water: "Any one have a toothpick?"), and his final explosion on the last day of the diet, Thanksgiving Day. Also contributing to this classic episode is the great Paul Lynde as the doctor Herman goes to for the diet plan. Of course, the doctor can't see very well, so he's not sure who the patient is standing before him. But once he puts his glasses on. . . .moreless

  • TRIVIA (4)

    • No explanation is given for Herman's unusually furry hands and then their sudden hairless appearance in later scenes.

    • This episode takes place at Thanksgiving, even though it aired two days before Halloween.

    • In this episode Herman goes to see Dr. Dudley for a check-up, the nurse says to the doctor you have a new patient. The doctor sends his glasses out to be fixed with the nurse, when he shakes hands with Herman he says that he must leave his dog outside, mistaking Hermans hairy hand for his dog. In two episodes before this, titled Rock A Bye Munster, Marilyn babysits Dr. Dudley's son Elmer. Herman, thinking Lily is pregant, goes to see Dr. Dudley and the doctor asks about the time he came in for a checkup. Even asking Herman about his dog, which was actually Herman's hairy hand.

    • When the doctor is looking at the appointment log, Herman's name is in the 9:00 slot. When Herman goes to the scale, the clock on the wall reads 9:30.

  • QUOTES (1)

    • Lily: It's alright Herman, you've just fainted.
Grandpa: That silly doctor thought you were dead.
Herman: What a ridiculous mistake. (Scoffs) I may be starving to death, but I am the picture of health.

  • NOTES (1)

    • This episode used a technique called "framing." The show opens with the last scene of the episode in the beginning and then shows the events leading up to the scene as a flashback, and then shows the last scene again. In many cases a narrator is needed to explain to the audience that their going to see a flashback. Narration is provided by Herman.
