The Munsters are back--well, some of them. Fred Gwynne, Al Lewis and Yvonne DeCarlo reprise their roles on the original series. Gwynne hasn't aged much, DeCarlo has, and Lewis is somewhere in between. The actor for Eddie isn't that great, and he always calls Herman "Dad," not "Pop." Marilyn is very different, but not bad.
We get to meet several new members of the family, primarily Cousin Phantom of the Opera. His character is annoying at times, but that's kind of how he was supposed to be.
Despite airing in March, this is a great Halloween story--not only with the Munsters, but with Dr. Diablo, a mad scientist; the story of a mummy's tomb; a hanging tree for the Munsters' Halloween; and a public costume party.
It is a little more suggestive than the original, but not really bad. It has its problems; Lily's makeup is inconsistent and it implies that Grandpa created Herman. Grandpa's assistant is Igor (recognizable as Ernest T. Bass from "The Andy Griffith Show"), the name of the bat on the original show. However, it is still quite good for a TV reunion movie.
