Episode Summary

EDIT
The Muppet Christmas Carol
AIRED:
For years, Ebenezer Scrooge has been a bitter, greedy man that treats virtually everyone around him with disdain. The approaching Christmas day doesn't mellow his mood, but something else might. He is given a ghostly warning that the Ghosts of Christmases Past, Present and Future will appear in order to him to show him the error of his ways. If he fails to repent, he will suffer a horrific fate. This retelling of the classic story sees Gonzo (as Charles Dickens) and Rizzo with hosting duties, and other Muppets assuming the story roles.moreless

  • The ONLY way to remake a classic...

    10
...is when it can be to encourage kids to like the classics in general, and when it is done to perfection. I am a purist when it comes to classics. I usually like the original only (in this case, the original plus one with Alistair Sim) and please don't mess with colourizing them! But this wonderful little gem did such honour to the spirit of the classic story, and did so to bring kids into the warm folds of this story which could otherwise be a bit scary. I remember being a bit freaked by the ghostie bits as a kid.

Only the Muppets could make this a standing holiday tradition in my home along with the Alastair Sim (Black and white only!) version of Christmas Carol and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer! Even Dickens would be proud of how it has cultivated new generations of fans...I will bet the same can't and won't be said of Jim Carrey's misguided foray into yet another story that doesn't need a new version!moreless
