    • Episode 8 - Case Solved (aka Finale)
At the morning briefing there are only three Investigators left. This is the final episode and there will be no Lead Investigator as the Investigators directly compete with each other. The Killer Clue that Andrew brought back is that of a joint bank account shared by Goldie Prior and Jay Wilmington. It's shown that the pin number is used to withdraw £50 in cash from a building society at 11.52am on the day Catherine was murdered. The Investigators say that there might be CCTV footage to see who used it - Jay or Goldie, as one of them could then be eliminated. Goldie's motives could be anger if she discovered that Jay was having an affair. The line of enquiry is to go to the solicitor's office where the family are there for the reading of Tony Wilmington's will. They must quiz Goldie and Jay to see which one of them made the withdrawal and why they didn't tell them. This is the last chance for the three remaining Investigators to speak to the three remaining suspects. The solicitor reads Tony Wilmington's will. He's left a recorded tape where we learn that he wants Jennifer and Jay to inherit Creeksea Place and the estate, and he says the Wilmington jewel he has left to his daughter Catherine Prior, and on her death, the jewel must become the property of her daughter Anya Prior. He puts a clause in saying that under no circumstances must the blood father of Anya, Trevor Dobie, get the jewel. Jay is shocked and says 'bas***d' out loud and storms out. Goldie approaches the Investigators to speak in private. They are wary to trust her as she has proved a liar on many occasions. Goldie tells Andrew that that she got a phone call from Jay at 11am on the morning of the murder telling her to go to the church as Catherine had something and they had to get it back. When she got there Jay told her it was the Wilmington necklace and he had to get it back or the wedding wouldn't go ahead. Goldie claims she went into the church to ask Catherine if she could have it as her 'something borrowed' but Catherine would not let her have it. Catherine wouldn't say where she got it from, and said that it would all come out later. Goldie then left, but she heard Catherine's mobile go off (it was Trevor) and she remembers Catherine saying 'leave it. I don't want to talk about it.' Goldie then left the church and told Jay that she couldn't get the necklace and said they could deal with it later for they had their wedding to go to. Nick asks who instigated the kidnapping. Goldie says it was Jay's idea, and she went along with it thinking if he wanted the necklace back, then Jay couldn't have done the murder. Mel asks what are your feeling snow about Jay, and Goldie says she doesn't know. Nick asks why she didn't tell them about the cash point? She says she didn't want to say anything about it lest it implement Jay and she wasn't sure if he was guilty or not. Meanwhile Trevor clears his belongings out of Creeksea Place preparing to leave. Jennifer sees him and alerts the Investigators, but by the time the Investigators get there, Trevor has gone. Jennifer takes them up to the annex, and they see Trevor's room has been turned into a child's shrine as though he was preparing to move in a child. Did Trevor plan to kill Catherine to take custody of Anya and then the jewel? The Investigators decide that the room looks like that of someone who's 'not all there.' Next they go to speak to Jay. Was Jay having an affair with Catherine? He found out she was his half sister two days before she was killed and he also found out she'd been given the necklace that he always thought was to be his. Mel notices a new answer on Jay's answer machine. It's Goldie warning and apologising to Jay for 'telling the Investigators everything.' The Investigators see photos of Goldie and Catherine pinned to the wall - the same Polaroid type the killer delivers. There's also a letter from Catherine saying Jay is the godfather to Anya. In the truck on the way back to the house, Mel says that Catherine seemed to have been with everyone - no wonder she was murdered. When they reach the house, they see it is in the dark as the power has been cut, and it has been trashed by the killer, who's even sinisterly hung up Mel's barbie doll in a noose and has left photos of their belongings (including Mel's dirty knickers) all over the place. At the briefing the next day, Andrew tells the chief about the raid by the killer and that the two locations they found for tonight's killers game are the Nuclear Bunk Living Quarters and the Nuclear Bunker operational Zone. Chief Bob says that he will now choose two of them at this half way point to play the killer's game and he will make his choice depending on who has failed the most times during the series. Andrew has 6 fails, Nick 5 and Mel 4. Andrew and Nick face the killer - it's Nick's first killer game and Andrew's 6th - Nick does not come back. The Chief welcomes the two final contestants, Andrew and Mel on the last day of the Killer Game. Andrew can't believe he's still there, and Mel wants to go the last mile to catch the killer. Chief Bob says that the Killer Clue that Andrew has brought back is a set of Polaroids with a message: 'who am I. if you are right you live, if you are wrong you die.' Bob tells them he has recent developments. The cash point had cameras in it and they see photos of Goldie taking cash from the machine. Goldie is cleared. For the last stage of the game, Andrew and Mel must assess all the information and evidence for an hour and make their choice between Trevor and Jay. If they both pick the killer, they share the prize, if they both pick wrong, they walk away with nothing. The Chief says that he has looked at all the evidence in the room and he now knows who the killer is, so they should be able to get this right. Does the evidence point to Jay Wilmington, or does the evidence point to Trevor Dobie? Mel and Andrew go up to the private room to give Bob their choice of killer and the motives. Andrew picks Trevor and Mel picks Jay. Andrew says that he thinks it's Trevor because 'he felt that if he could get rid of Catherine then he could get Anya, his daughter. He saw the necklace during the crime and took it as well. His mum was killed by the Wilmington's so he hated that whole dynasty and he knew Catherine was a half Wilmington and he didn't want his daughter being brought up with anything to do with the Wilmington's. He's moved out of the residence as he has the jewel and he was going to go away with Anya hence the passport photos.' Mel says all along she has felt it was Jay so she's going to be consistent. She says 'it was an emotional attack. Jay's been having a relationship with his sister, and he's lost all his family and friends through this. The murder weapon - the chart dividers were his, and Trevor wouldn't have had access to these. Goldie said that Jay wrote the ransom note and one of the lines in his note was 'come along tonight' which is also the motto of the killer. There also were Polaroid photos of Goldie in Jay's boathouse that were the same as those used in the killer's game. Trevor Dobie is not smart enough to commit a crime like this.' Chief Bob reminds them of final killers clue - only one of them will come back when they both go to play the final killer's game, this time decided not by luck, but by their investigative skill. Andrew must go to the Yacht club where Trevor has been spotted, and Mel must go to the Disused Airfield where Jay was spotted. Bob wishes then both luck. Andrew arrives as Trevor leaves by boat and a boat chase ensues. Mel arrives at the Airfield to see Jay taking off on his motorbike and their truck flags the bike. Both loose the potential killer. Both wait till night fall for news of their where abouts: Mel is told to go and find Jay at the Old Grain Store, while Andrew goes to pursue Trevor at the Construction Warehouse. Both see the 'coming out to play?' sign of the killer as they both enter their final killer game - and only one will survive. Is Andrew correct? That Trevor killed Catherine to get Anya and because he hated the Wilmington dynasty? Or is Mel's theory right that Jay killed for the jewel and the shock of sleeping with his own sister? Andrew survives winning £25,000. His theory is correct that Trevor killed Catherine. Trevor wanted Catherine to confess that he was Anya's father so he went to the church with a camera. They argued and Catherine admits he's Anya's dad, but he's never going to see either of them again as Catherine has been given money by her father Tony Wilmington. This family name is one that Trevor has hated for years over the abuse they inflicted on his late mother. Catherine tells Trevor they are going to move away from Blackwater to make a fresh start so he better get used to them not being around. In a rage, Trevor stabs Catherine with the navigational dividers that Catherine has stolen from Jay's caravan to defend herself. After the crime, he sees the necklace and takes it to frame the Wilmingtons. Chief says to a happy, shell shocked Andrew after his seventh killer's game, 'what do you have to say for yourself?' Andrew says 'I'm absolutely knackered. Would you like to come out for a drink Chief?' The Chief says he's very proud of Andrew, but he suspects he'll never come out of his house again! Andrew agrees saying he is going to go home now 'and become a recluse and no-one is ever going to see him again'. Andrew leaves The Murder Game with the £25,000 cash prize and we suspect the odd killer scar...are you coming out to play?moreless

Richard comes back from last week's killer game so group tensions are high. Ruairi chooses Andrew to be the next Lead Investigator saying Andrew "hasn't got a lot of confidence, but he's a good man." Only four suspects remain; Goldie, Jay, Jennifer and Trevor. The original necklace design drawing is brought back by Richard as this week's clue. The drawing shows that there is an extra part of the pendant that hangs down. Mel concludes that it's the top part of the necklace that's worth £6000 and put it together with the pendant and it's worth 2 million. Bob asks was Catherine wearing the complete necklace? Richard says it would be hard to tell as the bottom part of the necklace was hidden under her tee shirt. They look at the enhanced version of Goldie's kidnap video and see that there's a cardboard box saying 'pill boxes' in the background. The enhanced audio footage also detects a clock chime in the background. The Investigators conclude that there's a clock in Jennifer's antique shop and there should be a box full of antique pills boxes. The first line of enquiry is to go and confront Jennifer and tell her that Goldie was kept in the antique shop and to ask her what she might know. The second enquiry is to discover whether the murder of the baby sheds any light on the current murder. Richard says if Dorothy had Charles baby, maybe Trevor is also Charles child, but one that lived? And as Catherine and Trevor produced Anya, the heritage could go to Anya, as a Wilmington, which Jay and Jennifer wouldn't be happy about. Perhaps they killed Catherine as she had this knowledge? This theory also gives Goldie a motive as she's about to marry into the Wilmington family. The Investigators get a call from a local farmer to say the grain store has flooded, so it looks like the killer had been back to cover their tracks. Bob says he wants two people to go and investigate and try to find evidence. He also tells Andrew that for the first time in the Murder Game, the Lead Investigator will go into the field and will not be exempt from the group vote. Andrew chooses to work with Richard and go and search the grain store becoming Team 2. Nick and Mel are to be Team 1 and have to go and confront Jennifer about her premises been used to hold Goldie hostage. Mel and Nick are delighted that Andy took the dirty job and took Richard with him! Richard and Andrew are faced with 10,000 gallons of cold, dirty water, so they put on the waders and start searching for clues. Nick and Mel don't directly confront Jennifer regards Goldie being a hostage in her shop. Instead they ask who has access to the room. She tells them Jay and Trevor. She takes them into the back room and tells them she hasn't been in the room for days - they miss that the latest paper is on the table, thus, Jennifer is lying. Mel asks Nick if it should be a crime scene and he says no - but he's wrong. There is enough evidence there to make it a crime scene. Meanwhile, Richard and Andrew are getting on great guns - they've found a bag with something in it. Nick and Mel are about to leave the shop having still not told Jennifer that Goldie was held hostage on her premises. Before they leave, Jennifer tells them she's arranged to meet Trevor tomorrow and she's frightened of him and wants the Investigators to be there. Back in the house, Andrew says that Richard has not been that bad today. Later, Richard and Nick try to make sense of the shredded letter that was found in the flooded grain store. It's tough work, so when the going gets tough, the lead Investigator Andrew goes outside and leaves them all to it. A couple of hours later and the Investigators have pieced together the letter - it's from Charles Wilmington and written to his son and heir Tony. The letter talks about the spectacular peacock necklace that he had made for his wife. Now she's dead, he wants Tony to have the jewel and never part with it, and when he dies, he wants Tony to pass it onto a child you trust. It mentions that Charles never approved of Tony's choice of wife. Richard says maybe Trevor's angry because he thinks Jennifer killed Catherine? Why was Catherine wearing the necklace? Why does Jennifer claim to be scared of her lover? At Chief Bob's briefing, Nick and Mel admit they did not confront Jennifer regards Goldie being kept hostage in her house, and Bob is furious. Jennifer might have revealed other stuff. They should have found the box and the grand father clock. He tells them if Jennifer was working in the shop and the kidnap victim in the back, then she might have heard something. Nick tries to argue back saying they thought they has discovered another line of enquiry, that Trevor has access to the shop, but Bob is having none of it. They should have done as he told them to do, and if they'd confronted Jennifer she might have confessed to the kidnapping. He reminds them this is a murder enquiry so go for the jugular! Bob asks about the shredded letter. Richard says the letter shows that Tony knew about the necklace. The Chief says it also shows who Charles didn't want to have the necklace - Jennifer. Andrew says does Jennifer even know that it exists as Charles told Tony to tell no-one, thus, no motive? The Chief congratulates Andrew and agrees that this is a "good point" but we don't yet know that she didn't know. The Chief concludes the meeting saying that the killer is leading them toward the necklace, but where is the missing diamond? Team 1 must now go and keep and eye on Jennifer. Team 2 must follow up on the letter and question Tony Wilmington and see what he knows about the necklace and why Catherine is wearing it. Andrew and Richard are getting on okay. Richard says that he thinks that Andrew is voting for Mel, and he says that he will do the same. But Andrew says that he wants Nick and Richard to go into the killer's game. He says Mel has good lines of enquires and should be allowed to continue. Meanwhile Mel is annoyed that Nick did not take the blame for their mistake about confronting Jennifer about the kidnap situation. Mel and Nick tell Jennifer they are setting up cameras in her shop and will observe Trevor from their van. An oblivious Trevor enters and Jennifer's claims to being scared of him don't ring true. She tells Trevor that the Investigators were asking her 'whose been in the room' and she said that he was in a few days ago. This makes Trevor very angry. Why would she want to say that? Jennifer says 'I could have said you'd been in the church' which makes Trevor furious. He says to Jennifer 'we have to talk', but a nervous Jennifer says 'there's nothing to talk about and you should go'. As the Investigators watch this live drama unfold, noises can be heard outside the surveillance truck - they're locked inside by the killer leaving the next ocations for the killer's game; the bottling plant and the boathouse. This forces Mel and Nick to witness Jay entering Jennifer's shop unaware of the cameras. He tells Jennifer in a panic that 'the things missing'. Jennifer calms him down, saying 'we'll search later', and signals for Jay to leave. Jennifer Wilmington goes to the van and releases the door, confessing about the kidnapping saying that Jay was involved. Nick cautions Jennifer, and asks why she wanted the necklace? She says 'it's worth millions who wouldn't, but I'm not a murderer. We argued abut the jewel not the music, She was wearing the whole thing and I couldn't believe she was wearing it'. The Investigators ask how Catherine got hold of it, but Jennifer doesn't know. She says she'd never seen it before. She phoned Jay to tell him about Catherine wearing the necklace. Nick picks her up on this as in a previous statement she gave Jay an alibi saying that he was at Creeksea Place that morning. So where was Jay? Jennifer says he was at Creeksea Place. Jennifer then claims on the morning of the murder, she was at her solicitors, but the solicitor wouldn't tell her anything about the necklace as it's all in Tony's will. Meanwhile, in the house, Richard says he's had no problem working with Andrew. He says 'they are fields apart intellectually, but he knows that, and I respect him for that.' When Andrew is asked about Richard he says 'Richard has been less of a nightmare and has mellowed a bit. Richard and Andrew show Tony Wilmington his father's letter to him. Tony tells the Investigators he knows people think he's 'not of sound mind', so he records his conversations. He gives them a tape of him talking to Catherine, and telling her he wants her to have the necklace. She tells him she knows he's her father as her mother told her before she left, but Catherine says Trevor is Anya's father and it would be unwise to except the necklace as Trevor wants Anya. Tony assures her his will shall make sure Trevor never gets the necklace. Team 1 fail to ask if anyone else has access to the tape, or if there are any copies. Tony concludes he gave Catherine the necklace 4 or 5 days before she was murdered. She had the complete necklace with Wilmington jewel, and he gave her £20,000 to start a new life away from Blackwater. He says the Wilmington jewel was kept in a safety deposit box and Catherine was the only one who knew about it's existence. The boys discuss murder motives. Richard says that he thinks that Jay committed the murder as he was trying to get the necklace from Catherine before she left the country, and he saw the necklace as rightfully his. Andrew thinks Trevor did it and he's been lying about knowing he's Anya's father all along. Mel's annoyed that Richard and Andrew didn't ring to tell Team 1 this breaking information. Mel and Nick go to visit the solicitor who remembers that Jennifer visited him on Monday the 11th leaving at about 11am, which means Jennifer has lied again> When he checks the sign-in log book, the solicitor apologises - he's made a mistake - Jennifer did visit him on the 11th, from 11.45am. Jennifer is cleared as murder suspect. Meanwhile, Andrew and Richard get called to a fire at Creeksea Place. They are shocked to see the whole house on fire. All get out except Tony - 2 hours later at Creeksea Place, the blaze in under control and Richard and Andrew enter seeing Tony being taken out as a casualty. Richard takes the letter Tony is clasping from his hand - it's from Catherine and it's addressed to Jay: 'Now that you've heard the tape, you know what I've known for years. If I can forgive them, so can you. I love you now as a brother, and hope we can rebuild our relationship. I love you always. Catherine' At the final briefing Bob says that Tony Wilmington died in the ambulance on the way to the Hospital. The Investigators discuss the letter. Richard says perhaps Jay told Goldie which would give her a motive? Andrew says that Jay would have been very angry being a full Wilmington who wasn't getting anything. Bob asks Nick and Mel 'whose the one person who could be an alibi for Goldie?' It's Anya. Bob shows the Investigators an interview he's arranged with Anya carried out under family liaison officers. Anya says 'Auntie Goldie needed to go out for half an hour, and then she came back 5 minutes before grand-dad got back'. The Investigators know that this means that Goldie was away from 11.45am - 12.15am, which means she could have committed the murder. Bob starts to assess the Teams. Team 1 fail as they did not confront Jennifer about the kidnap situation in her shop, plus they missed the newspaper clue. Team 2 fail for not following up if anyone else knew about the tape, for not asking if there were any copies made, and for not asking if anyone else has access to the tape. For the first time the Lead Investigator can be voted for. They all go into secret room and Andrew is picked to play the killer's game. Andrew now knows that Mel and Nick conspired against him, but he sticks with voting for Richard to join him to play the killer's game. Back in the house Mel tells Nick that she thinks Andrew is noble for what he did. Richard asks Andrew why he voted for him for he has never voted for Andrew, regardign him not to be 'the weakest link?' Andrew feels guilty. Both men go to face the killer... Meryl chooses Nick in her last will and testament, making it Nick's second time as the Lead Investigator. At Chief Bob's briefing, he announces that there has been a leak to the local paper and they have run an article saying the Investigators have the peacock necklace. Bob wants to know who leaked this story as the only people who could know are the Investigators and the killer? Nick is told to follow this leak up. This week's Killer's clue is four passport photos of Anya. Ruairi says perhaps the clue points to Catherine having a plan to take Anya abroad, and Anya's dad might not have liked this? They already know that Catherine feared Anya's father, but which one? Catherine always said the father was Jay, but Trevor's the real biological dad. The first line of enquiry must be to interview Jay Wilmington and ask why people think he's Anya's dad and if he has been threatening Catherine, and this will be investigated by Team 1, Mel and Ruairi. Nick chooses Andrew and Richard for Team 2 and they must talk to George Hawick and find out if he left the island on his boat when he was cut off by the tide. Andrew laughs as Richard tells him so long as he tags along with him, keeps his mouth shut and lets him do the crime solving, they'll both pass. Meanwhile Mel and Ruairi confront Jay about people thinking that he's Anya's dad and that he's been beating up Catherine. Jay Wilmington is outraged and denies the accusations and wants to know the source of such malicious gossip. The Investigators are wise not to tell Jay anything. Back at the HQ, Nick has called the local newspaper to find out where the information came from. It turns out that it was anonymous, posted in a letter through the door. Nick is told he can come to the office and see this letter. Richard and Andrew go to see George on his island. George plays games with them, asking questions before revealing in a manic like fashion that Dottie was pregnant and that Charles, Tony's dad, was the father. George's friend Rodney Lewis then arrives back with the boat and shows them a picture of himself in the newspaper holding a big fish - "Whopper of the month". It seems Ron borrowed George's boat on the same day as Catherine's murder, so it looks like George could have an alibi. Richard and Andrew then get stranded on the island with the driver on the other side. Back at the house, Mel tries to influence Nick by saying she wants them to be the last two in the house and she adds he's 'so nice and brilliant to work with', but Nick seems wise to her girly charms. Richard and Andrew are forced to try and get on, but it's strained. 2 hours later Richard's calculated that the tide will now be low enough for them both to cross the water on foot. As they do, they get stalked by the killer who fires a flare and leaves a 'coming out to play' message on the fence with the next two locations for the killer's game: the old quarry and derelict barn. Back at the house, Andrew lets off steam about being stranded with Richard "I've never heard so much s**t in all my life." At the morning briefing, Bob says Team 2 must get to the bottom of the leaked story and follow up on this "Whopper of the month" article as George's alibi is not complete for what if another boat had been taken? Mel and Ruairi have to go and interview Felicity to see why she's being lying and find out whose baby it is. Is she aware it is Dorothy's baby? Bob asks the group about Trevor's relationship with Jennifer. Mel says maybe it's a fake friendship i.e. 'keep you friends close and your enemies closer.' Perhaps says Mel, Trevor is trying to get revenge on the Wilmington's. Ruairi says if Tony's in a wheelchair perhaps Jennifer is sleeping with Trevor? Later Mel and Ruairi follow up with Felicity. They are unaware that Jennifer is listening outside the door. Mel asks Felicity about Dorothy and Felicity tells her that 'Dottie gave birth to a baby' that was her father's. Felicity says she knew such a scandal could not be allowed to get out, so she admits to the Investigators that she killed the baby. At this point the Investigators should caution her, and take a statement as Felicity has admitted to murder, but Mel misses this point, feeling sorry for the old woman. Mel kindly tells her that 'she has nothing to worry about'. As they leave Mel and Ruairi disagree. Ruairi thinks the old woman killed the baby in badness, but Mel says it was accidental, but Mel's now worried. What if she got it wrong and they fail and the group vote her for this week's killer's game? The Blackwater Gazette is visited by Team 2 to find out about the leak and the alibi. The Editor shows the killer location photos, but he has no idea about where they came from. Richard asks to see the original photo of "Whopper of the month". They notice in this larger photo that George is on the roof. The Editor asks about the necklace, but the Investigators tell him nothing. Meanwhile back at the house, Nick gets a video email showing that Goldie has been kidnapped by the killer who's demanding the peacock necklace in exchange for Goldie's life. Bob calls an emergency briefing and tells the Investigators that Goldie Prior is in great danger and they must move quickly or she may be killed also. Team 1 are to go to Layer wood to do the swap and Nick picks Mel to be the negotiator for she has the best skills for this type of operation. Team 2 must attach a bug to the necklace, so that after the exchange, they can follow the signal, but they must not be seen. During the covert operation, Richard comes up with a plan for following the bugged necklace. Communication is the key to the exercise, but it looks like the Investigators have no reception by walkie talkie. Eventually Ruairi and Andrew manage to communicate, but the atmosphere is tense. Mel goes for the ransom exchange, tying the bagged necklace onto the end of a rope as requested. Live rounds are fired above the terrified Goldie's head by a shadow figure. The necklace is pulled in by the killer, who then flees by car leaving a crying Goldie behind. Mel goes to question Goldie but she's in shock and is taken by the paramedics to the Hospital. Richard and Andrew go to track the killer. They follow the signal to the old quarry - they've lost the car and necklace, but they've found the bug in the bag. Back at the house, Mel slags Richard off behind his back and during the evening case conference, Andrew and Richard come to loggerheads about possible motives for who they think killed Catherine. The next morning at the final brief, Andrew reckons that the killer and kidnapper who wanted the necklace could be different people, for why would the killer give the necklace, and then go and retrieve it back? Bob gives his assessments. Team 1; Mel and Ruairi did some good work, but they fail for not cautioning Felicity and taking her killer confession. Without this caution, nothing that Felicity said will be admissible in a court of law. Team 2; Andrew and Richard pass. They saw the importance of the photo in the newspaper and followed this up, clearing George as a suspect. That was good work. The Investigators go up the stairs to cast their vote. Mel breaks down and cries as she casts her vote for Ruairi in front of Bob. The outcome is Mel and Ruairi tie. Nick has to pick between them as well as picking his own choice. Nick picks Ruairi. Then Nick picks Richard, telling him he thinks he 'will do well out there'. The group all cross their fingers that Richard will be killed and Ruairi will come back. But Richard returns...moreless

Mervin selects Ruairi to be the next Lead Investigator in his will, as he thinks he will "blossom in the role". Richard sees this as a personal attack to get rid of him. The killer clue that Andrew returned is the necklace that Goldie was looking for that Catherine was wearing when she was murdered. Richard says that he has seen something similar, in the portrait of Alice, Felicity's mother in the Wilmington household. The other vital information is the dead baby that Mervin and Andrew found. An autopsy says the infant was full term but newborn. Andrew thinks the baby is Felicity's. Meryl reckons the dark secret must be figured out, and thinks Catherine is a decendant of the Wilmingtons. Team 1 are to interview the Wilmingtons and find out what they know about the baby. Team 2 are to confront Trevor Dobie, as information that "Anya's father" was threatening Catherine. Ruairi puts Meryl, Richard and Mel in Team 1, and Andrew and Nick are in Team 2. Team 1 set off to interview the Wilmingtons, staying at a hotel nearby. After greeting the investigators, Jennifer reacts in shock when hearing of the dead baby. Meanwhile at the vicarage, Tina Wells hears a noise at the front door. She has been broken into and the burglar has written "KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT" on the walls. Nick and Andrew dash to the scene and collect evidence to assist the case. Back at HQ, Ruairi takes a nap. Team 1 interview Felicity. She tells what happens, knowing they are talking about the baby. Saying when she was 14, she had a baby, premature and hid it from her family in the cupboard. She left it there. Team 1 know the baby was full term, not premature, but at this point, Team 1 are taken in by the lies. As they arrive back at HQ and read the full post mortem, they realise that maybe Felicity wasn't telling the truth. When Team 2 go to confront Trevor, Ruairi telephones some information. It turns out that Trevor telephones Catherine and was talking to her just before she was killed. When asked what they were talking about, Trevor says she was annoyed at him for not doing a good job on her roof. Andrew notices a familiar picture on Trevor's wall - the same as found in Catherine's grave. Trevor points out that his mother - the maid - was in the photo. Distracted by this find, Andrew and Nick forget what they went to see Trevor for - to confront him about threatening Catherine. The Killer Clue necklace has been valued and the necklace reaches about £6000 but the stones are only around £6 - showing that it cant be the same necklace. Tina feels under threat as someone has been in the church grounds. Team 2 go to protect Tina. As they arrive, Nick stays outside while Andrew stays around Tina. After having a cup of tea, Tina receives a phonecall and Andrew follows her. The phone goes dead on her - andrew has failed to realise there is 8 new messages on her answer machine. She shows him a box Catherine gave to her for safekeeping - in it, it shows that Catherine was working on the Wilmington family tree. There is a loud bang upstairs and Tina rushes to see whats happened. Andrew trails behind. Tina's husband, the vicar, has taken an asthma attack. He grabs onto Andrew and Tina rushes downstairs to get an inhaler. As she passes the stairs she is attacked and screams can be heard from the outside. Andrew rushes downstairs and sees the blood stained walls and floor with no sight of Tina. As Nick comes in, he calls for backup. The uniformed police arrive and Team 2 are relieved of their duties. Back at HQ when Team 2 return, the chief asks Andrew what happened. As he recalls the story, the Chief recieves a phonecall. A farmer has reported a disturbance in his land and Team 1 are sent out to investigate. When searching, they find the body of the murdered Tina Wells. A calling card is left for the investigators too - a pigs heart with a knife through it, and polaroids of the locations of the next Killers Game. The day has ended disastrously. "Tina is dead" says the Chief and therefore eliminated. The answer phone in Tinas machine is played - its Dean, threatening her. In the box that Tina gave to Andrew, there is a dictaphone. This is then played. There is a conversation between Catherine and an elderly women, in what appears to be a nursing home. It was recorded on the 14th October - around the same time Catherine broke into Creaksea. The investigators come to the conclusion that the elderly women is Trevor's mother - Dorothy. They hear her talk about the baby, and realise that Felicity could not be telling the truth. Team 2 have to return to Trevor and confront him with the information that Catherine felt threatened by him. When they meet Trevor, he is clearly annoyed that someone would say it. Trevor then says to them that Catherine told him that Jay was Anya's father. Team 1 go to the nursing home to make sure that the story that the baby's mother was Dorothy and to make sure the interview did take place. When they ask around, they realise that it is true - Catherine took the interview here and the baby is Dorothy's. Richard creates tension when he gives himself the title of "Lead Investigtor", to the annoyance of Ruairi. The feeling vice-versa. Team 2 go to question Dean to see if he has an alibi for the time of Tina's abduction. Dean doesn't co-operate to well, but gives the impression he doesn't know Tina is dead. He says that Tina was spreading rumours and talking about him - thats why he was threatening her. As Mel's 22nd birthday celebrations are underway, personal drifts are showing, spliting Richard away from the group, and Meryl slighlty at arms with Ruairi. Team 2 are told they should have taken Dean's computer away. As not only does Dean have an alibi for the time of Tina's abduction (a log of an email). It also has a record of an email at the time of Catherine's murder. Therefore he is eliminated as a suspect. Team 1 pass and Team 2 fail altogether, when the Chief gives his analysis. Andrew is voted by the group for the fourth time and Ruairi picks Meryl to join Andrew in playing the Killers Game. Andrew goes to the Dark Woods and Meryl to the Old Docks. Tensions have become strained between the girls and the boys. Last week Mervin chose Sam to play the killer's game, and Sam did not come back. In Sam's last address to the group she states that she thinks Mervin picking her was personal and she's not amused. She says she wants Mel to be the Lead Investigator as "she really has her teeth in this case and deserves to be in the house longer". An argument is about to break out when Mel tells the group that Mervin "made the wrong decision" picking Samantha and Ruairi reacts saying Mervin can pick who he likes. Chief Bob diverts the petty bickering to the job at hand. The killer clue from last week was a blank certificate. Who does this belong to? How does this link to Catherine? It's been confirmed by forensics that Catherine was killed by navigational dividers which points to Jay. The blood stained coat that was discovered last week is discussed. Richard says their theory is it could belong to Tina as inside the pocket was her wedding invite, and it seems that the murder weapon was wrapped in the coat to take the murder weapon away from the scene of the crime. Of course the coat might actually belong to the killer and this could just be a device to frame another suspect. Mel chooses the teams and Bob starts dishing out their lines of enquiries. Team 1; Meryl and Nick must go and question Tina about that blood stained Mac. Team 2; Richard and Ruairi must question several key witnesses who all claim to have seen Catherine at different times and places - only one of them is telling the truth. Team 3; Mervin and Andrew must pay Jay a visit and show him the navigational dividers to see what they can find out about them. So Jay gets his visit, from Team 2 and immediately recognises the navigational dividers as his (he recognises the chink on it). He tells the Investigators that he keeps these navigational dividers with the maps and never takes them off the boat. Jay questions where the Investigators found the devices, but they are wise to tell him nothing. Jay reminds them that tomorrow is Catherine's funeral and lets slip that Felicity, Jennifer's sister won't be going as she is an agoraphobic. En route to question Tina Wells, Meryl admits to Nick that she's nervous having to meet that "wretched hyper woman" as she's so difficult to deal with. Tina's spotted on her bicycle. But before they can ask about the coat, Tina reveals that she has remembered some information that might be useful for them. Tina says that Catherine told her that she found something in Creeksea place in a room in the corridor on the first floor, in Alice's room. Tina doesn't know who Alice is, but whatever Catherine found she said it would "change everything." Tina's phone then rings and she gets a heavy breathing call which the Investigators try to question her about, but Tina gives nothing away. Meryl plucks up the courage to ask Tina if she has a red Mac and when she last wore it. Tina replies agitated, on the edge of loosing her temper again, that yes, she has a red coat and it hangs in the vestry of the church. The Investigators try and fail to question her further about this as she flees exasperated on her bike. Meanwhile, Richard and Ruairi have been questioning the key witnesses. Sexy Zoë Richards claims she served Catherine in her supermarket and she remembers Catherine signing the cheque with her right hand. Middle aged Mary Jane Thornton says she saw Catherine outside the news agents and she remembers her as they both reached for their glasses at the same time and chatted. Finally, Edward Green claims he saw Catherine arguing with a middle aged woman with a swept up Diana hair style not long after 11.30am. He said the woman was driving an L registration, navy blue, Volvo estate car. The Investigators re-check the wedding video and forensic reports and they deduce that Catherine was left handed and wore contact lenses. So Edward Green is the key witness telling the right story. At dinner the atmosphere could be cut with a knife. Andrew tries to lighten the mood. A phone call from Tina Wells breaks the dead lock - Tina is terrified for she's heard noise coming from the graveyard. Mel sends Meryl and Nick off to investigate, and continues taking the evening meeting with her only female ally gone. The men at the table are very non-responsive. It's obvious no-one's having a good time any more and the conversation around the table is thin. Andrew makes an effort saying he thinks the killer is male for it's "a man type murder." Mel later confides to the camera that she thinks Mervin has split up the house and the men "are taking the piss" out of her behind her back and she doesn't like it at all. A wary Meryl and Nick arrive at the graveyard. Catherine's funeral is not until tomorrow, but Tina shows them a fresh grave has been dug. Meryl and Nick start digging, all be it Meryl doing most of the donkey work! Two hours, 4 feet down and over a tonne of soil later, the "pair" have dug up a photo album which they bag up as evidence. At Bob's morning briefing it's announced that forensics have looked at the album and returned a 1930's picture of a picnic held at Creeksea Place plus Polaroid photos from the killer on the next locations to rendezvous; the Fortress and the Old Hospital. Team 2 announce Edwards's statement to be the true one, which points to Jennifer Wilmington. Bob tells team 2 their next line of enquiry is to confront Jennifer with the key witness statement at the funeral. Team 1 must go to the wake to observe the suspects, and Team 3 must go to Creeksea Place and find out what Catherine discovered in Alice's room - Jennifer will be at the funeral, leaving agoraphobic Felicity alone, so there's a good chance she'll unwittingly let the Investigators into the house. Bob says "without fail you must get into that room." Mervin and Andrew have no problem getting Felicity to let them in, though she is more reluctant with Alice's room. Eventually the key is found; a beautiful peacock key like the peacock necklace in the painting that hangs on the wall. The boys sprint up the corridor with key. Felicity starts to panic and shake with fear. At the funeral, Team 2 confronts Jennifer about the fact she omitted that she had dropped Catherine off at the church on the morning of her murder. Trevor joins the conversation, but Richard knows to take Trevor away so that Ruairi can question Jennifer alone. Jennifer confesses that she did pick Catherine up that morning and she didn't tell them as she was embarrassed that they'd argued about what music should be played at the wedding. The phone suddenly rings. It's a terrified Felicity telling Jennifer that the Investigators are in the house. Jennifer and Trevor take off at speed for Creeksea Place. Richard and Ruairi pick up on this and try to warn Team 3 that the Wilmington's are on their way home, but the mobile doesn't work. They call Mel. Back at Creeksea Place, Team 2 search the room with no break through - suddenly Mervin finds a secret wall panel. It opens onto a secret room and they are both shocked at what they sea; a dead baby in a pram that looks like it has been decomposing for decades. The men panic and instead of sealing off the crime scene, they leg it out of the house, just before Jennifer and Trevor arrive back home. At the wake, Nick and Meryl chat to the suspects. Vanessa and Tina volunteer information that Anya told them her father used to beat up her mother (Catherine) but the women don't know who Anya's father is, and neither does Anya. At the evening conference Mel finds it totally impossible to motivate and control the team as the men ignore her comments and talk over her about the suspects' files. The gap between Mel and the group has become enormous. The group bond once again as a team at the final morning brief with Bob where he announces that Creeksea Place is now sealed off as a crime scene, with forensic experts combing the mansion, so for now, Creeksea Place is out of bounds. Bob announces which teams have passed and which have failed. Team 1 pass for following up on the coat and discovering new information about Alice's room which lead to the discovery of the dead body. Their skills are also complimented for picking up on the heavy breathing call to Tina which could become significant later on. Team 2 pass for identifying the right witness statement and for their handling in confronting Jennifer Wilmington about her lie, and then picking up on the significance of the call she got from Felicity and warning the boys. Team 3 managed to get Jay to admit the navigational dividers were his, and they correctly withheld information when he questioned them. They did well to discover the dead baby's body, but what were they thinking of when they ran away from a vital crime scene? Jennifer could have removed all the evidence and then the photos they took would stand for nothing. Andrew correctly does his best bit of detective work to date; "I think that means we've failed chief". The group vote is cast between Mervin and Andrew. Once again, for the third time to be precise, Andrew is picked by the group to face the killer. The next vote is down to the choice of the Lead investigator. Pass or fail, no-one is safe from this vote. Mel takes great pleasure in picking Mervin and tells the group that "this person has made bad decisions in the past and not taken responsibility for them." Mervin tries hard to put on a brave face as he whistles his way through the ordeal of facing the killer at the Fortress. Andrew is not so bold, begging for the game to end as he walks through the Old Hospital. Mel is especially relieved as MERVIN DOES NOT COME BACK.moreless

Sarita, who was killed by the murderer in last week's Killer's Game, chooses Mervin as the lead investigator because "he thinks logically and he will do well". With only three women left - Sam, Meryl and Mel - the girls think there is a male conspiracy against them. The killer left a clue for Andrew in the Killer's Game - a pillbox. The investigators are also given the information that builder Trevor Dobie is the father of Catherine's daughter Anya. Mervin forms the teams. Team 1 will be Richard and Meryl. They will interview Trevor and find out if he knows he is the father. He will be at Jennifer Wilmington's antique shop so the investigators will also quiz her about the antique pill box. Team 2 - Nick, Ruiri and Andrew - will interview Jay Wilmington again about the break in to his boat. Team 3 - Sam and Mel - will visit the reclusive George Hawick, find out what he knows about Catherine and why he was trying to call her. First out are Team 2. They head to Jay's houseboat but find that Goldie is with him. They interview the suspects together and Goldie storms out when she hears that her sister has stayed on the boat before. Jay Wilmington tells the Investigators that he and Catherine were 'just friends'. He then gets a phone call from Dean Garretty, who says he has taken some pills. The investigators rush to his location with Jay. Dean is frightened and runs upstairs and when Jay tries to talk to him he falls from a height onto boxes below. Dean is unconscious and is driven away in an ambulance. Meanwhile, Team 1 head to Jennifer's antique shop. Trevor Dobie tells the Investigators that he has no idea who the father of Catherine's child is, and that he once had a one night stand with Catherine. They break the news that he is Anya's father and he seems pleased, though he doesn't want them to tell anyone. They show Jennifer the pill box. She identifies it as her own and wants it back, but Meryl explains they need to hold on to it as it is evidence. Team 3 set off to interview George Hawick. He lives in isolation on an island that's occasionally cut off from the mainland by the tide. He explains that he last saw Catherine on the morning of the wedding when she was practicing the Aria she was to play at the ceremony. He says she left around 10am, before the tide cut her off and he called her later to see how her playing had gone. He also implies that he wouldn't have minded if she had stayed. Although the rising tide could provide George with an alibi, he also has a boat and could have crossed to the mainland in it so he is still a suspect. When they leave Mel surmises that perhaps George was jealous of Catherine's relationship with Dean and could have followed her to the church and killed her. Back at the hospital, Team 2 talk to Jay. He says: "It's all Vanessa's fault" referring to Vanessa March, Catherine's baby sitter. The team wait to talk to Dean Garretty once he regains consciousness. After four hours they are allowed to see him. He tells them that Vanessa's pregnant, but he doesn't know if he's the father or not before he goes into convulsions. Back at HQ, the Investigators gather for their case conference. They discuss who may have strong motives to carry out the murder. They believe Goldie has a strong motive as she thinks Jay may have been having an affair with her sister, and Vanessa has a strong motive as she may be pregnant with Dean's baby and was jealous of Catherine. In the middle of the night the Investigators are woken up by the killer's grisly voice. The killer has hacked into the HQ computer and has a left a message about the locations for the next Killer's Game. Vanessa is questioned. It becomes apparant that she is not pregnant, and this was a lie she told Dean to get his attention. But she tells the Investigators another lie - by telling them that Dean picked up a pregnancy test at the chemist on the mornnig of Catherine's wedding. This is not true - it was Vanessa who picked up the pregnancy test, meaning she's no longer a suspect. Team 1 are taken off in a helicoptor to do an ariel reconnaissancee. After a while they establish that Catherine must have got a lift to the church from George Hawicks house. Meryl also spots a red object on a tree. When they land, they discover it is a blood stained coat. Inside is Tina Wells's wedding invitation and they conclude that it must be her jacket. In the final briefing, the chief congratulates Meryl for her good work and says that she has performed best out of all the Investigators so far. Team 1 pass for holding onto the pill box as evidence and for spotting the vital clue on the tree. Team 2 fail for forgetting to separate suspects before conducting an interview and Team 3 are failed for not telling the media anything at the press conference. The Chief once again conducts the group vote. The group vote for Andrew. Mervin, as team leader, casts his vote on Sam, saying that she should have organised the press conference better. Sam is upset by this as she had spoken to Mervin beforehand and he had advised her to say nothing. Andrew and Sam go to face the killer - SAM DOES NOT COME BACK!moreless

The first task this week is the appointment of a new Lead Investigator chosen by Christine, who was killed by the murderer in last week's Killer's Game. She chooses Nick, telling the group he is "methodical and puts thought into all he does". Detective Chief Superintendent Bob Taylor reminds the Investigators of the clue left for Sarita by the killer - a key to a caravan in Mill Fields park where Catherine Prior lived before she was murdered. Dean Garretty is now missing, but they are told that a car has been abandoned that fits the description of the car that dumped the video camera. At the caravan site, Team 1 discover that the key does not fit the lock, but then Catherine's father, Frank Prior, Catherine's daughter Anya and her babysitter Vanessa March turn up. Frank tells them that he has changed the locks and lets Anya in to pick up some toys. When they leave, Team 1 search the area for an hour, and eventually come up with what may be a vital piece of evidence - an envelope that reads: "F Mills, shed 4, 4pm, 15/11/02." They decide that this could be a secret rendezvous. Meanwhile, Team 3 heads to the Wilmington family base, Creeksea Place, to interview Jennifer. She provides the team with a wedding list, but while they are there the groom, Jay Wilmington, phones his mother to say his house boat has been broken into. Team 2 have found the car but can't decide where to place the police cordon. They spend 20 minutes deciding where it should go. Unfortunately the killer is one step ahead and by the time they approach the car he has set a fire trap and the car blows up. Back at HQ, Mervin and Richard are searching through CCTV footage of the petrol station where Frank says he bought petrol on the day of the murder. Frank is cleared when they spot him on the tape, six minutes before the murder occurred. There are a number of unanswered questions: Where is Dean Garretty? What vital evidence is in the car that the killer tried to destroy? Who broke into Jay's barge? At 7am the following morning, the investigators are woken up by a loud banging on their door. They find some polaroid photos plastered to the patio windows with blood and a number of separate locations written on them. The team try to figure out what the killer wants before attending a morning briefing. The Chief tells them that Jennifer Wilmington received a call from Dean just before the team arrived to interview her yesterday. Although they had asked her if she had spoken to him, Jennifer said no, so she has lied to them. They decide to return to speak to her again and plant a bug on her. Team 1 head to the secret rendezvous point, and the Chief warns them not to get spotted and not to separate. Unfortunately when they arrive, Dean Garretty turns up early and they accidentally confront him. They give chase but he gets into his car and drives off before they can catch him. They decide to wait to see if anyone else shows up. Babysitter Vanessa March turns up and then leaves, before phoning Dean. Meanwhile, Team 3 are given a masterclass in surveillance at Creeksea - including a bottle to urinate in! They manage to plant six bugs in the Wilmington residence, including one on Jennifer's cardigan which is lying across the settee. They then find a hut in the grounds where they can listen to what's going on inside the house. Eventually builder Trevor Dobie, who is also a suspect, arrives. He thinks that Jennifer has left a tape on his doorstep. She explains that she hasn't and they watch the tape - it's the missing video tape from Dean's camera. Jennifer rings Nick back at HQ and he tells Team 3 to go and pick up the tape. At the final briefing, the investigators watch the tape. It seems that Dean and Catherine were having a relationship as they are kissing on camera. Team 3 fail for not testing for fingerprints properly on Jay's house boat and missing a vital lead. The Chief explains that they should have checked the glass that had been picked out of the corners of the smashed window - then they would have discovered that two set of prints were on the boat - those belonging to Jay Wilmington and Catherine Prior. The Chief once again conducts the group vote. After an initial tie between Meryl and Sarita, the group vote for Sarita. Nick, as team leader, casts his vote on Andrew, his reason being that he's judging the group on team work and Andrew is the only person he has had to ask for information on events while he's been in charge. But they have a single ambition too - bagging the £25,000 cash prize which can only be given to the last survivor! Guided by the worldly-wise Detective Chief Inspector Bob Taylor, aka The Chief, the game begins. Catherine Prior has been murdered and it is up to the special investigators to solve the crime. Richard becomes Lead Investigator, therefore deciding who is in what team. Later while the investigator's enjoy dinner, a wreath attached with 9 mugshot photos is smashed through the downstairs window. The message says ‘I am one of the nine' and it is clearly from the killer - they are challenging the investigators to discover which of the nine people in the photos is the blood spiller. The suspects are: Dean - Jay's best friend; Frank - Catherine's father; Goldie - Catherine's sister; Jay - Goldie's fiancee; Jennifer - Jay's mother; Trevor - a builder; Vanessa - Catherine's friend and babysitter to Catherine's daughter, Anya; Tina - the vicar's wife; and George - Catherine's old piano teacher. Dean's house: they see the wedding car speeding out from Dean's garage and give chase. The driver throws something out of the window over the disused railway bridge. The investigators loose the car, so they stop to find what was thrown over the bridge - it's the missing video camera. They are smart enough not to play the tape and bag it as evidence. At the final briefing the tape that Team 3 found is played by Bob for all the investigators to view. It's horrible - we can see Catherine being murdered and then hear the sinister voice of the killer over pictures of the investigators eating their meal - they're been watched! The killer tells them to meet them at the Power Museum and the Old Gates and evilly threatens that one of them will not be coming back from the meeting! The group privately go up the wooden stairs for a secret meeting with Detective Inspector Bob where they cast their vote on who they think should face the killer and give their reasons why. The group vote for Sarita. Richard as team leader casts his vote on Christine, telling the group he considered Christine to shown the least initiative.
