In its later stages, "The Name Of The Game" experimented with eccentric generic episodes away from the usual issue-based plots. There was a musical episode ("All The Old Familiar Faces"), a western episode ("The Showdown") and the famous Spielberg-directed s-f episode, "LA 2017". These Season Three items may have been born of a certain creative desperation as the show wound down to its close, but they are preceded by this "horror" episode from Season Two, in which Glenn Howard takes on a mysterious occult group whose lives are dictated by Tarot readings. There is a certain element of pretentiousness - Glenn suffers irrelevant nightmares about the dead girl, involving an annoying dancing clown - and the script is a little confused about the actual beliefs of the occultists; but it mostly moves at a good clip and keeps one watching. The sub-text of incestuous obsession is never quite articulated, but it's sufficiently clear to us to raise our eyebrows.
