  • Dishing the dirt, but what's the motive?

    8.0
A clever, entertaining episode in which Glenn Howard finds himself suspecting an old friend of deep corruption, whilst being forced into an alliance with a man he despises. The intricate solution to the mystery lets him off the hook, morally, but we are still required to notice what a dirty game politics can be. Naming the city as Chicago was a rather daring stroke - the episode was first aired only the year after the notorious Chicago riots, and memory of the strong-arm tactics of Mayor Daley's regime must have been vivid for many viewers. Playing an old-fashioned machine politician with few scruples and little interest in pretending otherwise, Stephen McNally gives a terrific, camera-seizing performance.moreless
