  • Mr. Sheffield finally tells Fran he loves her!

    9.6
In an exciting, cliff hanger & season finale...Fran and Max travel to Paris! Well...Max travels to Paris for business, but when Fran realizes he took the wrong bag on his trip she boards the plane and "accidently" flies overseas with him. The relationship obviously makes HUGE strides in this episode...which was cleverly plotted and well-written. The sub-plot (all of the other characters at Mr. Sheffield's home) also proves entertaining, as Ms. Babcock wallows in the fact that Fran is accompaning Max in a very romantic city! The two hit the town and the audience meets Mr. Sheffield's brother, but before anything can happen between the Fran & Max, Max decides it is time to go home....

...On the trip back home, the plane begins having difficulties, a stewardist dramatically runs through the plane....and as the air bags fall, Mr. Sheffield tells Fran he loves her and the two kiss...Exit scene.

An exciting, entertaining season finale! This leads to a great season 4 opener when Max "takes back" that he loves her, and Niles absolutely cannot figure out what Max said to Fran on the plane that he took back. Well-written, one of the series best!!moreless

  • QUOTES (4)

    • Maggie: How much do you know about the Titanic?
Yetta: Top of the line! They had a midnight buffet on deck and the ice sculpture, huge!

    • Fran: Oh Mr. Sheffield, I just wanted you to know that these last three years have been just the best years of my life.
Maxwell: Oh God - my children! Oh, they adored you Miss Fine.
Fran: Ya know, now would be a good time to call me Fran.
Maxwell: (After lots more turbulence in the plane) I love you.

    • Brighton: You know, Fran, I don't wanna say anything here, but I think this dog is dead.
Fran: Oh, calm down, he's not dead, he's just sleeping.
Yetta: I get that all the time.

    • Fran: At least when you turn 30 you'll be rich. When I turn 30... I'll be 40!

  • NOTES (5)

    • For all of her appearances this season, Renée Taylor (Sylvia) was nominated for the 1996 Emmy Award for "Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series", even though her status remains as a guest.

    • Due to the aftermath of the TWA Flight 800 disaster, which occurred in July 1996, CBS scrapped their plains to re-air this episode out of respect of the victims' families.

    • Two guest actors were not credited: one is the waiter at Nigel's club (who might be the same guy who played the hotel employee, although it was hard to tell due to his brief appearance), and the other is the stewardess, who could be director Dorothy Lyman.

    • Renée Taylor's name is shown during the closing credits, but she didn't appear in this episode. That was either a left over from the previous episode or her scene was cut.

    • The dog used for the Paris scenes wasn't the original Chester. It was a stunt dog. It looked very different from the original one. Also, in some scenes Fran and Maxwell are with Chester. In some scenes he's nowhere to be found.
