    • TRIVIA (3)

      • In the last scene Alex asks Fran her response. Fran starts to tell a long story and mentions Giza. Alex asks if that's her responds and she says no and continues. He gets upset and then she finally tells the answer which is Alexandria. However, in Final Jeopardy, Alex should not have asked her what her response was, he could have just looked at what she wrote down. In fact, in Final Jeopardy, the contestants do not say anything because Alex can just look at their responses.

      • In the last scene Fran calls the Jeopardy people about her missing box of Rice-a-Roni. But look closely and you'll notice that by the end of the scene she has all 6 boxes.

      • When Fran hit the Daily Double, it became open to all three contestants apparently. It should only have been Fran's question; she did not have to ring in.

The producers probably did it for dramatic effect, but if it were an actual Jeopardy episode, in Final Jeopardy, they would have began with Fran, since she was in third place at the time.

    • QUOTES (16)

      • Maxwell: That relationship doesn't make any sense. What on Earth does he want with her?
Niles: Sir, is it beyond your comprehension that an intelligent man of the world could find Miss Fine intellectually stimulating?
        Maxwell: (Laughing) No, really, Niles.
Niles: Oh, alright. It's a bet.

      • Niles: Just trying to fill your void, sir. It's obvious you miss her.
Maxwell: I do not miss her! I'm just wondering where she is and what she's doing... which is entirely different from missing her! (Notices Niles staring at him) What?
Niles: Oh nothing, sir. I was just wondering how you ended up there and I ended up here. Seems wrong somehow.

      • Noel: The oldest body orbiting the Sun.
        Fran: What is William Shatner!
        Noel: Oh, my head. (Groans)
Fran: The same thing happens to Mr. Sheffield! Must be something in this room.

      • Maxwell: Oh, Miss Fine.
Fran: What is a nanny! Things that are single!

      • Noel: Hey C.C., want to have some fun?
C.C.: Noel! I thought that was illegal.

      • Fran: Even my cousin couldn't get on Jeopardy, and she finds Waldo every single week.
Noel: I'll bet you could do it.
Fran: No, I couldn't find Waldo every week. Especially when he's at the beach and has his shirt off.

      • Brighton: (testing Fran's TV knowledge) Channel 29, what follows The Ghost & Mrs. Muir?
Fran: That would be Family Affair, the episode where Mr. French accidentally drops Mrs. Beasley off the terrace, followed by The Munsters with Marilyn Number 2, followed by Bewitched with Darrin Number 1 but Mrs. Kravitz Number 2.
Maxwell: Bravo, Miss Fine. You seem to know more about sixties television than most people your age have forgotten.
Fran: Well, are you calling me old or just stupid?
Maxwell: You have a childlike quality that I find absolutely charming.
        Fran: (to Niles) Childlike?
        Niles: (translating) Just stupid.

      • Fran: Remember when I first moved here and you asked me, Where was the Cabernet?, and what did I say?
        Maxwell: Next to Cabin B.

      • Fran: It's nice to have a man around who notices my inane intelligence.

      • (Fran is backstage at the Jeopardy! studio with the kids)
Fran: OK, questions, kids. Drill me!
        Maggie: The category is "Potpourri."
Fran: Things that smell good! Things you put in a dish!
Brighton: (interrupting) Fran, that's the Pyramid!
        Fran: What is Egypt?!
Grace: (interrupting) Fran, you're running out of time!
        Fran: I'LL SOLVE THE PUZZLE!

      • Noel: Moving on. Astronomy. This is the oldest body orbiting the sun.
Fran: (Loudly and proudly) What is William Shatner!

      • C.C.: Oh, it'll be so wonderful to see Noel again. We used to have so much fun! Every summer he'd take me to the horse show.
        Niles: Did you ever win?

      • C.C.: I paid $200,000 for that stallion.
Niles: I hope he paid for the room.

      • Maxwell: So, did you have a nice evening?
Fran: I tell you, it was a beautiful wedding. Val and I cried our eyes out. She made some gorgeous bride that Dr. Quinn.

      • Alex: Fran?
Fran: Well, my mother and I were on our way to Israel on El Al, and who was sitting next to us but Diana Kind (AKA Barbara Streisand's mother), in coach! They got a lotta unresolved issues, those 2. On her way to see the pyramids in Giza--
Alex: So your response is Giza?
Fran: No, Mr. In a Hurry! But talking about Streisand and Egypt reminded me of Omar Shariff, who (according to my Funny Girl Trivia Book) was not the first actor cast in the role of Nicky Arnstein, but the--
        Alex: (aggravated) MISS FINE!!!
Fran: (her response) What is Alexandria?!
Alex: That's right! You doubled your score to 200. Fran Fine is the new Jeopardy! champion!
(Fran screams in surprise and dances to the Jeopardy! theme as she walks over to Alex and waves to the camera)

      • Maxwell: (while Fran is auditioning for Jeopardy) It's too bloody quiet around here. What on earth's missing?
Niles: Perhaps this will help, sir. (imitating Fran) OH MISTAH SHEFFIELD! AAAAHH!

    • NOTES (2)

      • Both guests Sue Goodman and John Glen Bishop have played (or would play) other small character on the show.

      • Charles Shaughnessy was actually on Celebrity Jeopardy. He beat David Duchovny and Noah Wyle among other celebrities and won a total of $30,000 for a homeless shelter and also got a call from his own childhood nanny congratulating him.

    • ALLUSIONS (2)

      • The plot of this episode is quite similar to a 1988 Mama's Family episode Mama on Jeopardy; both involve the lead character managing to get on the game show to the surprise of the other cast members, the said lead character starting off lousy on the game show before managing to make it to the plus side right before the Final Jeopardy round, trying to peek at the others' answers during the Final Jeopardy round, and the lead character dancing to the Jeopardy! theme after something exciting happens. Though both episodes have somewhat different outcomes, they both result in a happy ending for the lead character (including her showing sudden affections for Alex Trebek!)

      • Title: Franny and the Professor

The title refers to the 1970s sitcom, Nanny and the Professor.
