    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    FILTER BY TYPE

    • TRIVIA (3)

      • When Sylvia arrives to confront the woman who might be Fran's birth mother, she bursts in and says "You're black?" and points with her right hand, while holding her purse with her left. However, in the long shot, she is pointing with her left hand and holding the purse in her right hand.

      • While Fran is getting pulled over by the policeman, she turns the steering wheel to the left. However, she is not driving in England, so shouldn't she be turning the wheel to the right?

      • When Fran gets pulled over, she tells the officer that she was driving with her arms. However, when she was applying her makeup, her arms were not on the steering wheel, so it gave the illusion that the car was driving itself.

    • QUOTES (9)

      • Fran: A woman just called and told me that ma may not be my real mother.
Maxwell: So are we happy or sad?
        Fran: We're thinking.

      • C.C.: I have a friend at CBS who wants to buy our show and turn it into a TV series.
Niles: Whoa, back up. You have a friend?

      • Sylvia: (After hearing that Fran's blood test results came back negative, and that Lila is not her birth mother) Doctors make mistakes! We'll get a second opinion!
        Fran: Ma, you're embarassing me!
Sylvia: Will you stop calling me "ma"?!
Fran: Knock it off. You're my mother. If I can accept it... who's the bigger sport here?

      • Sylvia: (To Fran) Why are you pursuing this? I am your mother, and nothing that this woman will ever say will ever convince me that I am not!
Lila: Would you two like a little privacy? We have a guest house.
Sylvia: You hear that? Your mother has a guest house.

      • Niles: Miss Babcock called. And it looks as if she won't be moving to California. CBS decided not to do your play.
        Maxwell: Why?
        Niles: Because they saw it.

      • Niles: Do you mean there's still a chance to keep C.C. selling shoddy shows by the seashore? (Physically moves Maxwell towards the door) You get in your office, man, and come up with a fresh idea!
Maxwell: If I had a fresh idea, I wouldn't be trying to sell this crap on Broadway!

      • Fran: Don't call me "Miss Fine". That may not be my name. I may be a completely different person. I might not even talk like this! (Looks directly into the camera)

      • Fran: (Points to some chocolate cake) You know what, if you continue to eat this way, you are going to kill yourself!
Sylvia: You know, I get so little pleasure in life. It's not like you've given me a wedding to plan, or grandchildren or... (Fran plops something on the cake)
        Fran: Have some whipped cream.

      • Lila: (On the telephone talking to Fran) Oh, you have no idea how happy I am to hear your voice.
Fran: Oh, you know, if I had a nickel for every time I heard that... I'd have a nickel.

    • ALLUSIONS (2)

      • C.C.: What? No comment from the quicker picker upper? (Referring to Niles)

This is a reference to Bounty paper towels, and it's slogan "The Quicker Picker Upper". Over the years, it has been modified to "The Quilted Quicker Picker Upper".

      • Niles: Just tell them "show me the money"!

This is a reference to the famous line from the movie, Jerry Maguire.
