    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    • TRIVIA (1)

      • When Fran and Max & Gracie get back to the mansion, Fran and Max announce that Max said that he loved her and didn't take it back, Gracie looked surprised as the others. However, wouldn't she know that, since she was went them when they came back?

    • QUOTES (11)

      • Fran: You know, you look exactly like... like you do on the back of a shekkel.
The Sultan: Yes, sometimes I like to make a bet with someone, so I can flip it in the air and shout "tails or me?"

      • Maxwell: Ah, good afternoon, Miss Fine.
Fran: Good afternoon, Mr. Sheffield. You know, the kids are at school, Niles is shopping. We could... do it.
Maxwell: (tentatively) All right. Hi... Fran.
        Fran: (playfully) Hi Max.

      • Fran: Oh, Mr. Sheffield, what are you doing here? How did you get in the palace?
Maxwell: I-I just knocked on the palace door, and before I knew it everyone is bowing and scraping and kissing my ring. I have to say this is the friendliest bloody country in the world!

      • (After Fran refuses a gift from the sultan)
Sultan Hassan: Ah, but you must! It is customary in our country when a guest admires a possession, she must have it.
Fran: Oh, did I say pen? I meant palace. (Laughs) No, you know, it's very beautiful, but it's really more my mother.
Sultan Hassan: Then I think I shall love your mother.
Fran: (Sing-song) Uh oh, now she's yours!

      • Maxwell: Oh, why can't a woman be more like a man?
Niles: Hmm... (C.C. walks in) Well, there's your prototype.

      • Niles: Right. She has to understand that men are the providers, the warriors, the hunters! (Touches the flowers on the foyer table) Oh, I'm killing myself, I didn't get tulips.

      • (Maggie grabs the remote from Brighton's hand and changes the channel)
Brighton: Hello, I was watching that!
Maggie: Well, now you're watching this.
Brighton: You, watching Clueless. Wouldn't that be a little bit redundant?

      • Fran: This is even more beautiful than the Taj Mahal!
Grace: Fran, when were you in India?
Fran: Trump opened another one in India?

      • Fran: I guess I'm going back to the desert. But I might not return that quickly! Our people tend to dilly-dally there.

      • Maxwell: That's right, I have expenses. You know this year alone my food bill doubled?
Fran: Now, please let's not bring my mother into this.

      • Fran: Mr. Sheffield, I know that I'm not crazy. That king was coming on to me.
Maxwell: Well, of course he was, Miss Fine. Of course he was. Anyone could see he was smitten with you.
        Fran: Wasn't he?
Maxwell: Of course he was. He's a man. And unfortunately, some men are just not very good at expressing their feelings. And I could see right through that sultan. Oh, yes. You would start as his nanny, all right. And you start working for him for a few years and eventually you would be on a first name basis, and then one day he'd come to realize you are more important to him than his work. And then, ha. Then he would tell you he loves you.
Fran: And... when does that happen?
Maxwell: Right now. I love you.
        Fran: What?
        Maxwell: Fran, I love you.
        (They kiss)

    • NOTES (1)

    • ALLUSIONS (3)

      • Maxwell: Oh, why can't a woman be more like a man?

This is possibly a reference to the first line of "Hymn to Him," a song from the Broadway musical My Fair Lady.

      • Fran strikes a Tony Manero dance pose and mentions the song Stayin' Alive. This is a reference to the 1977 film Saturday Night Fever .

      • This episode is a spoof of the 1991 film, Not Without My Daughter. The film starred Sally Field, who plays an American woman trapped in Islamic Iran by her husband.
