  • Oh, I love happy endings!

I saw this episode today, I was astonished on what happened. It was about time, but it was so sweet at the moment. I think this is one of the best episodes--it's got chaos, excitement and romance all in one. I think it's really interusting that Fran goes and tells everybody. Even though she knows and is going to pretend to get engaged, when Maxwell proposes to her, she is suprised with excitement anyway. It's a really amazing episode and of course, one of the best. A really happy ending.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • When Fran calls her mother to let her know she's getting proposed to, and accidentally sets off a phone chain begins, the show is parodying the 1963 movie Bye Bye Birdie.

  • QUOTES (12)

    • Fran: Niles, what happened? Did Miss Babcock die?
Niles: No, better! Well, not better but very good!

    • (Maxwell is sitting alone looking at his wife Sara's picture)
Maxwell: (Sighs) Well Sara you know you will always be in my heart. You're my first love and your the mother of our children and nothing can ever change that. But I've met someone very special and I love her a great deal and the children are crazy about her. I think you'll like her, you know in many ways she reminds me of nobody you've ever met. I think you'll be very happy for us.

    • Jake: Hey how's it goin, Mr. Sheffield?
Maxwell: Jake, congratulate me. I'm about to ask my nanny to marry me.
Jake: The one with the voice?
      Maxwell: What voice?
      Jake: Oh you're in love.
      Maxwell: Good night Jake!

    • (Fran telephones Sylvia)
Sylvia: (picking up the telephone) Yes?
      Fran: (excitedly) I'm getting married!
Sylvia: Sorry, Miss. You got the wrong number.

    • Maxwell: Oh, Niles, Niles. Come here. I want to tell you something.
      Niles: Uh-hm.
Maxwell: Niles, can you keep a secret?
Niles: Well, I'm good until I meet another person.

    • (Fran and Maxwell have just finished kissing)
C.C.: Maxwell, we have business to attend to other than playing kissy face with the help.
Fran: Oh, come on, Miss Babcock. I'm not really that much help.

    • C.C.: Oh Nanny Fine, cute coat. How many muppets had to die for that?

    • Fran: Hi everyone! We're home and guess what? Your father has something he wants to share with you all.
Maxwell: I've told Miss Fine I love her.
Grace: What else is new? (everyone obviously not surprised)
Maxwell: Oh oh yes, I didn't take it back. (everyone erupts in cheers except C.C.)
Niles: Oh congratulations, this is wonderful news!

    • Maxwell: There we are, home sweet home.
Fran: Thank you so much for coming all the way to Koorestan just to say you love me, Max. (chuckles) Now, you haven't said it in New York yet, so say it again.
Grace: Fran aren't you getting kinda tired of hearing it? Or is that just me? (points her finger at herself)
Maxwell: There you go sweetheart. (lets Grace in) Fran?
      Fran: Yes?
Maxwell: I love you. (they kiss)

    • Niles: Should I get you a fork?
      C.C.: What for?
Niles: To stick in yourself, you're done.

    • Fran: Oh my god! Oh Mr. Sheffield!
      Maxwell: Oh Miss Fine.
Fran: Are you hurt? What happened?
Maxwell: I got mugged, I was on my way home to you. (groans)
      Fran: Oh.
Maxwell: I'm sorry I'm so late.
Fran: Oh that's okay. As long as you're alright, who cares?
Maxwell: I should have fought back harder.
Fran: No, no, no, they say you never fight back, you just give them what they want. You don't argue, you don't get aggressive.
      Maxwell: They got the ring.
Fran: I'LL KILL 'EM! I mean, I mean, what ring?
Maxwell: Oh Fran, I wanted tonight to be the most romantic night of your life.
      Fran: I know.
Maxwell: I wanted... wait a minute ...(searches through garbage) Wait... wait. Fran?
      Fran: Yes?
      Maxwell: Will you marry me?
Fran: Oh Max. You know it's all so sudden.
Maxwell: Well, will you? (strokes her cheek)
Fran: What do you think? (they kiss passionately)

    • Fran: I'm getting married!

  • NOTES (2)

    • When C.C. comes in the foyer with a rack of Fran's clothes, notice some of them were from past episodes. The dress C.C. hands to Fran is from "The Party's Over" and the dress at the far end when Fran heads for the door is from "The Playwright".

    • Mr. Chung's food place is called (according to Val) "Rickshaw Hunan Palace". Rick Shaw wrote this episode.
