    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    • TRIVIA (1)

      • In this episode, Sylvia sings to Max, "though you're 43, Sonny Boy." Yet in 'That's Mid-life,' Max told Dr. Joyce Brothers he was 42, and in 'The Nose Knows,' he told the man in Dr. Miller's waiting room that he was 44. That would make him 46 now, not 43.

    • QUOTES (5)

      • (Sylvia has been pampering Maxwell)
Fran: I just want to fuss over you like Ma does.
Maxwell: Yes, but if I wanted someone to cook and clean and fuss over me, I've had married Niles.
Niles: (wearing a construction worker outfit) Oh, and you didn't think this look worked for me.

      • (Fran is reading a book about pregnancy)
Fran: "What to expect in your eighth month: indigestion, heartburn, bloating, flatulence, nasal congestion." Ah, well, according to this, my entire family's pregnant.
Niles: You know, the worst part about your pregnancy is going to be the mood swings.
        Fran: Oh?
Niles: I can get very testy.

      • Max: No I don't mind having your parents stay with us. I like them using my hot tub, and my golf clubs, and...
Fran: Yeah, you see? You say you're okay with these people coming into your house. Then you can't use the stuff you want when you want to use it. Like the other night when you wanted me and Ma came in with The Godfather 1, 2 and 3.

      • (Fran puts in her "Wedding" video. It shows Fran walking down the aisle at the chapel, then it cuts to Aunt Freida standing in the Sheffield mansion watching "Fran" walk by)
Aunt Freida: (on the video, crying) She looks so beautiful! (blows her nose)
Sylvia: What the hell is this?
Fran: That's your ticket home, Ma

      • (Fran, Maxwell, and everybody has just finished watching the fake Sheffield's wedding video)
Sylvia: Oh, Frieda, that was so beautiful. Unfortunately, you can't stop after one number. There's a Gerswhin Medley.
Fran: Oh Ma, will you just say "I'm Sorry" to Frieda?
Sylvia: Does the teal skirt come with the matching jacket? (subtitles appear, translating that to "I'm sorry for not letting you sing at the wedding")
Aunt Frieda: I think so, but I can't promise that it has western stitching! (subtitles translate that to "Apology Accepted", Sylvia and Frieda hug)

    • NOTES (2)

    • ALLUSIONS (1)

      • Fran: "Who am I to break up Harold and Maude?"

Fran calls Maxwell and Sylvia "Harold and Maude". "Harold and Maude" was a movie from 1971 involving a 20 year old man and a 79 year old woman who quickly become best friends, and lovers.
