Season 4 Episode 1

The Tart with Heart (2)

Aired Wednesday 8:30 PM Sep 18, 1996 on CBS

  • Trivia

    • When Jack enters the house, Fran closes the door. Right after they're done with the small talk, the door is open again, and Fran closes it again.

  • Quotes

    • C.C.: Maxwell, what an ordeal this flight was. I can't imagine anything more terrifying.
Niles: (holding up a polished mirrored plate in front of her) Booga booga booga!

  • Notes

    • Benjamin Salisbury makes a brief cameo in this episode and has no speaking lines.

    • Nicholle Tom does not appear in this episode.

    • Starting with this episode, Renée Taylor, Ann Guilbert and Rachel Chagall are credited right after the opening credits instead of being credited in the end credits.

    • Originally, they were supposed to have the plane make an emergency landing. Then Jim Dial of Murphy Brown was to ask Fran how the crash was, and she was going to say, "It was fabulous!" They had to redo all of that of the crash of TWA flight 800, which occurred on July 17, 1996 and killed 230 people.

    • This episode marked the show's return to Wednesday nights, where it would remain until it ended its run two years later. This move was an attempt of CBS to improve ratings for their poor Wednesday line-up. Five years have passed and CBS is yet to keep a sucessful show on Wednesdays.

    • Peter Marc Jacobson starts as executive producer in this episode.

    • Bloopers from this episode were featured during the closing credits.

    • The first three episodes of the 4th season were filmed in May (and not during summer as they would normally be) to fit Fran Drescher's film schedule.

  • Allusions

    • (Fran has just chastised her mother for flirting with the butcher)
Sylvia:  What's with the women's lib?  When did you become Gloria Estefan?
Fran: No mom; that's Gloria Steinbrenner.

Both women are hinting at, but mis-naming Gloria Steinem, a champion of women's rights from the late 1960's - present.

*Gloria Estefan is a Cuban-American singer, and Gloria Steinbrenner does not exist, but was probably a nod to the wife of George Steinbrenner, long-time owner of the New York Yankees.
