    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    FILTER BY TYPE

    • TRIVIA (2)

      • Fran tells Elizabeth Taylor she thought about getting married once, even though she has said yes to two marriage proposals (Danny and Julius) and one fake (Maxwell).

      • Maxwell says the children 'left for school an hour ago', but seconds later, Gracie enters.

    • QUOTES (14)

      • Maxwell: Please! Please, does... does the name Elizabeth Taylor ring any bells?
Fran: Yes! Of course! Of course! I remember!
        Maxwell: Oh! Yes! Yes!
        Fran: I'm Elizabeth Taylor.
Maxwell: NO! You're not Elizabeth Taylor!

      • Sylvia: (Showing Fran a photo album) Do you recognize this man?
Fran: No. (Looks at more pictures) No. No. No. Who are all those men?
Sylvia: They're your father, just wearing different hair.

      • Maxwell: You're my nanny. You take care of my children.
Fran: But I've got style, I've got flair. How did I become the nanny?

      • Fran: Can I ask you a question? I've been dressing like this for 3 years and there's nothing going on between us?
Maxwell: That's right. I'm your employer.
Fran: Hmm. And what is it you do again?
        Maxwell: I produce musical theatre.
Fran: Ah. Now it's all making sense to me.

      • Sylvia: How much is that dress in Macy's window?
Fran: Who cares, it'll be at Loehmann's on sale!

      • Maxwell: It doesn't matter who's coming over, Miss Fine, because you're not going to meet her... him, or it.
Fran: You know, I cannot believe that you don't trust me. I mean, I sit here cooped up in the house all day, you never introduce me to any of the stars that you know, you never let me in any of your shows. I have a good mine to get Little Ricky and... oh.
C.C.: Nanny Fine, I need you to drop off this script to Antonio Banderas!
Fran: Forget it, Miss Babcock. I already know who's coming over here.
C.C.: You told her about Elizabeth Taylor?!
        Maxwell: No. YOU did!

      • Maxwell: Oh come now, don't you remember who I am?
Fran: I don't know, I've met so many people this week... you're that nice loving forgiving man?
        Maxwell: Guess again!
        Fran: You're me employer?
        Maxwell: Almost...
        Fran: You're my worst nightmare?
        Maxwell: You got it!

      • (while in the tub)
        Fran: We're not married?!
Maxwell: The truth is I hired you.
Fran: I'm a hooker?! Well that does explain my shoes.

      • Fran: I was just talking to my girlfriend, Elizabeth Taylor.
Cozette: Elizabeth Taylor Hilton Wilding Todd Fisher...
Fran: (joins in) Burton Burton Warner Fortensky? (they laugh) No wonder her hips keep breaking down.

      • Elizabeth Taylor: So are you Maxwell's wife?
Fran: No, I just work for him. Actually, I've never been married.
        Elizabeth Taylor: Not even once?
Fran: Well, you know, there was this one time but then I thought about it...
Elizabeth Taylor: (laughs) That was your mistake, dear.

      • Fran: I think everything worked out just the way I always thought it would. I'm married to a great looking guy and I have three gorgeous children.
Yetta: Oh, honey, you got hit on the head, you're a little confused. The two big ones are from a previous marriage.

      • Fran: Boys, boys, boys, now do you think my mother gave birth to a dummy 25 years ago?

      • (Fran opens the door, and and Elizabeth Taylor comes in, despite the fact that nobody wants Fran to know; she had trapped Niles in the kitchen)
Fran: Oh, Elizabeth Taylor! This is such an honor! I'm Fran! Look at the pretty table! (on the table is Fran's automatic camera, which won't flash; Fran poses next to Elizabeth) Keep lookin... (the camera still won't flash) Oh, forget it. (Fran bites her nail, and the camera automatically takes a picture)

      • (while Fran and Max are splashing each other in the Jacuzzi, Niles comes in with the phone, and looks at them in surprise)
Niles: (to Maxwell, nervously) Excuse me, sir. Miss Babcock's on the phone for you, but I'll just tell her you'll call right back, (speaking into the phone) right after you and Miss Fine get out of the Jacuzzi! (he steps out)

    • NOTES (3)

      • This episode was videotaped on February 16th, 1996

      • A short scene where Maxwell is informed that the pearls have been found aired during the original airing but has never been seen again since.

      • Elizabeth Taylor's appearance was just one part of a chain of appearances she made on CBS the evening of 26 Feb 96. All sitcoms this evening featured an appearance, with the interconnecting thread of Liz's pearls being stolen. The story starts with Fran losing Liz's pearls. Annie finds the pearls in the Can't Hurry Love episode "Liz Taylor Show", the story continues in Murphy Brown and is finally concluded in the High Society episode "The Family Jewels", where Dott and Ellie's jewels are also stolen. Curiously, those were the last episodes for both High Society and Can't Hurry Love.

    • ALLUSIONS (1)

      • Fran: Listen, Cosette? Cosette: Yeah, I'm French. Cosette is one of the characters of the novel "Les Miserables" by Victor Hugo, which is obviously French.
