What I really loved about this episode is that it has all the characters at their best, especially Wednesday. This is easily one of the best episodes to show Wednesday's character, although I do believe they changed her slightly later in the series. We have Wednesday as the sombre, quiet child who can intimidate anyone, while at the same time sounding sweet and innocent. Pugsley here is also shown as much quieter and more sombre than usual, although this definitely changes later on. We also get a good look at the dynamic between Gomez and Morticia. Not only do we get a clear look at each of their characters (in the two scenes where each individually speaks to Mr Hiller) but we also see how they interact as a couple, including that it is Morticia who really runs the household.
The plot is interesting as well, as it shows how "normal" people can have very different perceptions of the Addamses. It also highlights how the Addamses are quite the normal family. Wednesday mentions that her parents did not want the children at school because "They'd rather we learned something". Gomez and Morticia speaking to the principal also give a sense of normalcy as it shows parents actually being involved in their children's school. Overall, this was an excellent episode which highlighted all the characters at their best and before they were changed too much.moreless

The school board finds out that Wednesday and Pugsley have never been to school, and insists that they be enrolled immediately. Gomez and Morticia are rightly concerned about how the first day of school would be for the kids. Wednesday and Pugsley return with the horror of a dragon being killed in Grimm's Fairy Tales. But everything is straightened out when the school board reps come to the Addams house.moreless
