The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse and Heckle and Jeckle

Show Summary

The Filmation studio produced this low-budget update on Terrytoons' two biggest cartoon stars, Mighty Mouse and Heckle and Jeckle. The Mighty Mouse episodes were atypical, except the violence inherent in the original theatrical cartoons was absent. Heckle & Jeckle cartoons here were pretty non-descript. There were two Mighty Mouse cartoons and two Heckle and Jeckle cartoons. Added to the mix were "Quacula," a vampire duck (pre-dating Cosgrove-Hall's "Count Duckula" by two years, first appearing on Danger Mouse), and "The Great Space Chase," a 16-part serial which was essentially a Star Wars/Flash Gordon spoof. Special features included "Mighty Mouse Environmental Bulletins" and "Homonyms" with Heckle and Jeckle dabbling in sound-alike wordplay. Some of the folks who would work on Ralph Bakshi's Mighty Mouse show in 1987 worked on this series (Kent Butterworth, John Kricfalusi), and they could readily attest that it wasn't fun working on this show under Filmation's standards. Some of the budget restrictions could be attributed to the fact that on many shows, the registration pegs on the bottom of the cels were cut off and taped to the top. Most of the production money went to Scotch tape!moreless
