Christine tries to prove to everyone and herself that she is capable of being independent after Matthew and Barb both decide to move out of the house and Ritchie leaves for a sleep-away science camp.

Who was the Episode MVP ?

  • Embarrassing most of the time, this was nowhere near as good as other episodes have been recently.

Embarrassing most of the time, this was nowhere near as good as other episodes have been recently. The premise of Christine spending one and a half days with her foot stuck in a toilet while swallowing an earwig was so stupid I could not believe it. The scenmes with Matthew and Lucy weren't much better either as I was finding Lucy to be more and more annoying as she went on. The only saving moments were the scenes with Barb and Richard who were at least moderately funny. Come on Old Christine. You can do so much better than this twaddle.moreless
  • This was ridiculous.

What odds do you think a bookie would make for an episode of The New Adventures of Old Christine revolving around the title character having her leg stuck in the toilet? 100:1? 1000:1? Well, take those odds because that is the absolute ridiculousness that was this episode.

I did like the Seinfeld allusion, and Saturday Night Live's Michaela Watkins (sad to see she's leaving, I'm guessing) but whoever gave the go ahead to this script should be fired immediately.

I've bashed a lot of episodes of a lot of shows over the years, but this was too bad for words. Just awful.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • It would have been physically impossible for Christine to be laying face-down on the floor while having her foot caught on the toilet (unless she'd horribly broken her leg or dislocated her knee in the process).

  • QUOTES (8)

    • Christine: (hears a knock at the door) I'm not alone! I have a dog! And a cop boyfriend! Who loves me! And is strong! And can lift me!
      Richard: It's just me.
Christine: Oh. I thought you were a murderer.
Richard: No, the imaginary murderer ran away when he heard about your imaginary cop boyfriend.

    • Christine: (to Matthew) And I did it. I proved to myself that I can live alone for almost a day and a half on nothing but earwig.

    • Matthew: You live here, I'll move out, and we'll just date.
Lucy: Yeah, we'll see where it goes.
Matthew: Right. But we know where it goes. It goes to me standing here, shoeless and starving, getting yelled at for being right on time.

    • Richard: What are you doing here?
Barb: I came by to check on Christine and to bring her some dinner. (holds up a bottle of wine.)

    • Lucy: If anyone's making it weird, Matthew, it's you. You come in here with your big army bags, and your filthy shoes, and your large body, rude to my son, want to start fires in my kitchen.
Matthew: I was trying to make us some noodles.

    • Christine: [Earwigs] scare me, Richard. I saw this TV show where they said they could crawl into your ear and eat your brain.
Richard: It's going to be one hungry earwig.

    • Matthew: Let's celebrate. We'll go down to the farmers' market, get some stuff, come back, and we'll cook our first dinner together.
Lucy: Cook? I don't really cook.
      Matthew: Well, I can cook.
Lucy: I don't really like what other people cook.

    • Barb: How are we going to tell her that we're all moving out at the same time?
Matthew: I don't know. Christine has huge abandonment issues. It started when our parents forgot to pick her up at summer camp. Two weeks later they found her in a bunk surrounded by lanyards. No one even told her camp was over.

  • NOTES (4)

    • When stuck in the toilet, Christine has a flashback that shows her to have been similar to Julia Louis-Dreyfus' character of Elaine Benes from Seinfeld and included a mock-up of the outside of Jerry and Kramer's apartments, music similar to the show's theme music, and her saying "That's a shame", Jerry's catchphrase.
