Season 1 Episode 11

The Ghost of the Red Baron

Aired Saturday 9:30 AM Nov 18, 1972 on CBS

  • Trivia

    • The background music from "Dastardly & Muttley In Their Flying Machines" (1969) is used judiciously in this episode.

    • Shaggy and Scooby seem to defy gravity with the fact that instead of climbing on the pole to get to the top of the tower (where the controls of the miniplane are), they run in an upward direction.

    • After Scooby and Shaggy (who are on the tower operating the miniplane) thrawt the Red Baron's last attempt to poison the corn field, he uses a remote control to summon his biplane in an effort to escape. The plane leaves the hangar with everybody watching it go by, including Shaggy and Scooby, who are still supposed to be in the tower. A definite case of characters being in two places at once!

  • Notes

    • Anachronism/Interesting Note: The real Three Stooges at this time were retired (their last film was Kook's Tour). The cartoon Curly is based on Curly-Joe DeRita who filled the role from 1959-1970, not Curly Howard who was dead at this time.

    • Olan Soule, who voiced Batman and the Joker in the two Batman & Robin episodes, voiced Moe Howard in the Three Stooges stories.

    • Norman Maurer, writer of the two Three Stooges episodes, seemed to like getting Velma in a fine mess. In "The Ghastly Ghost Town," Velma gets lost. In this episode, she's airborne in a WWI bi-plane she can't fly.

    • This is the second appearance of the Three Stooges, who previously appeared in "The Ghastly Ghost Town."
