  • From Start to Finish

Poor NBC, tried a variety show to air opposite Matt Houston & Falcon Crest, but got clobbered in the ratings.

I liked seeing an earlier Saturday Night Live. From start to finish, it made me laugh!

START: Steve Martin spoofs Michael Jackson's Billie Jean music video.

FINISH: A wedding reception with a "Where's the Beef?" theme. Hey look, a cow with a question mark on it. Where's the beef? When it went to commercial, they had a Wendy's commercial with Clara Peller.
  • Weak Effort

The New Show was an attempt to bring the Saturday Night Live brand of humor into prime time. There were comedy sketches, musical guests, and even a version of Weekend Update called Weekend Tonight, hosted by Buck Henry and Dave Thomas. Other regulars included Maggie Wheeler and Valri Bromfield. Produced by Lorne Michaels, the creator of SNL, The New Show never found an audience and was canceled after a few months.
