  • WILL YOU TUNE IN FOR SEASON 2?

The Newsroom's Season 1 Finale: Won't Get Fooled Again

I'll say this much for The Newsroom's first season: It was never boring.

  • Episode Summary

    EDIT

In the Season 1 finale, Mac is agitated by a possibly devastating announcement from gossip columnist Nina Howard. Meanwhile, Sloan ponders a new job opportunity; Neal's Internet alias could avert a catastrophe; and Will, Mac and Charlie confront Leona and Reese during a volatile lunch meeting.

    • Great ending to a fantastic show!

      9.5
As usual, a very humorous yet enlightening appearance by Will, especially in his hospital bed, and the mean nurse and Mac helping out. I think his role has really developed from a mean grumpy old man to someone much more humane and likeable while still amazingly intelligent, witty, and gutsy.

The supporting cast also did a great job, I liked how the Maggie, Jim, Don and Lisa love circle almost ended the way the audience hoped for but still didn't, and it was very entertaining to see the negotiation between Charlie and Leona, especially how it ended.

The only negative part maybe was Mac having her usual tantrums, seriously her character's credibility is decreasing with each episode, she really isn't impressing with her girly pouts and mood tantrums about her past relationships. Get a grip Mac and be more professional like Sloan!

On a final note, it was a fantastically smart way to play "the Greater Fool", and nobody pointed out that that was the title of the supposedly negative article about Will in the magazine. Perhaps Brian wasn't so critical about Will afterall, just like Will said, it was all true what he wrote.

Really looking forward to the next season, way to go Aaron Sorkin!moreless
    • This was....

      10
by far the greatest TV show episode ever across the board for any show ever developed!!! :D yes it was. I don't care what anyone else thinks! It had a lot of everything squeezed in and yet it didn't feel squeezed in at all. So many heart warming, goose bumping moments. I absolutely loved it. It was better than the pilot. Way better. THIS SHOW BETTER NOT BE CANCELLED!!!

      • Sloan Sabbith: The greater fool is actually an economic term, it's a patsy.
        Will McAvoy: Thanks for that.
Sloan Sabbith: For the rest of us to profit, we need a greater fool. Someone who will buy long and sell short. Most people spend their life trying not to be the greater fool. We toss him the hot potato, we dive for his seat when the music stops. The greater fool is someone with the perfect blend of self-delusion and ego to think that he can succeed where others have failed. This whole country was made by greater fools.

      • Will McAvoy: (on his hospital bed) Not well? What is sickness to the body of a knight-errant? What matter wounds? For each time he falls he shall rise again, and woe to the wicked! Sancho! My armour! My sword!

      • Will McAvoy: Ask me your idiot question again.
Jennifer Johnson: What makes America the greatest country in the world?
        Will McAvoy: You do!
