Blog Spotlight: Melissa d'Arabian Talks About Ten Dollar Dinners

This season’s winner of The Next Food Network Star is stay-at-home mom Melissa d’Arabian. Melissa, held her ground throughout the competition against executive chefs by staying true to herself, presenting wholesome yet elegant dishes that we all felt we could make ourselves. Melissa’s new show is called Ten Dollar Dinners, and the title is self-explanatory. Each week she will cook an entire meal (including dessert) for a family of four, with a budget of $10. Read More

Blog Spotlight: Food Network Addict Review: Melissa d'Arabian's 'Ten Dollar Dinners'

Melissa d'Arabian won The Next Food Network Star last Sunday, as you know, and her show Ten Dollar Dinners premieres tomorrow, Sunday the 9th, at 12:30pm ET. Unlike last year's winner, Melissa and her show pretty much remained under wraps until the big reveal. And, luckily, the first episode was pretty good! She managed to not kiss any raw meat.

Melissa's first episode, titled "Perfectly Priced Parisian," sounded very similar to season 3's winner Amy Finley's show The Gourmet Next Door when I first got it in the mail. (I already pointed out the recycling of Amy's blue tiles, and now after watching I'm pretty sure she also got Amy's old oven. So green of Food Net!)

While Melissa and Amy do have some similarities (both are moms who have lived in France), Melissa comes across as much more polished and ...

Blog Spotlight: The Next Food Network Star - Finale

This week's episode of the Next Food Network Star starts with cozy scenes of our two remaining wannabes at home with their children. First Jeffrey and his lovely wife and their two kiddos. They cook together! He does martial arts! Then we see Melissa and her four squealing toddler girls, ages 4, 3, 1 1/2 and 1 1/2. Not surprisingly, those last two are twins. Looks like her biological clock went ballistic after years of climbing corporate ladders and annoying the business world with her voice.

Blog Spotlight: Next Food Network Star #508: LIVE BLOG

Hi, I'm Jillian Madison, and I'll be live-blogging tonight's episode of Next Food Network Star for FNH! We're down to Debbie (the lying Korean), Melissa (the frantic housewife), and Jeffrey (the boring, monotone guy with the greasy hair). Who will go home tonight? Stick around and let's find out!

9:00 pm: Debbie opened the show by admitting she had some "lapses in judgment" - but added that she's now ready to show the world "the real Debbie." Thanks, Debbie, but I think the world saw your true colors weeks ago.

Meanwhile, in happier news, Melissa is in the bathroom using more hairspray than Dolly Parton.

Have you ever thought you could host your own show? Food Network tests that belief in this competition that focuses on both cooking proficiency and camera skills.

Season 12 begins with 12 new finalists, unique and intense challenges, plus guest judges culled from Food Network and Top Chef, and scattered press and celebrities. This season starts in Los Angeles and ends in Food Network's hometown of New York City. On the way, the finalists will have to prove themselves in a variety of venues — food festivals, interactive media, television appearances, and various party types. Through it all the finalists must always demonstrate the overarching theme of this competition: excellence in the kitchen, ability to share their points of view, and an on-camera presence that will attract fans and newbies alike. Join the fun as these hopefuls compete for their dream.

Bobby Flay and Giada De Laurentiis return as mentors, and are also part of the Selection Committee. The viewer-voted winner continues, a new show, Food Network: Comeback Kitchen premieres which gives one finalist from previous seasons to join Food Network Star from the beginning, and Star Salvation returns for season four, giving one eliminated finalist the chance to return for the finale. The winner is awarded his or her own Food Network show, a headlining spot at the New York City Wine & Food Festival, and a feature in Food Network Magazine. Produced by LEG/Triage Entertainment.
