Episode 7
AIRED:
All five of the remaining boxers are in the winner's circle: Griffin, Pareja, Mince, Zaragoza and Armijo. Jimmy Mince and Gilbert Zaragoza have a plan to gang up on Pareja. Mince doesn't like that Pareja chose to have him fight earlier. Gil and David exchange words in the loft. Their plans are foiled when Pareja wins the competition and immunity that goes with it. The five boxers smashed three ice blocks each with small hammers. Pareja got the three medallions out quickest and won. Tommy tells the other four to vote for who will fight. Rene Armijo is selected. Tommy then gives Rene's dad, Rene Sr., the ability to pick who his son will fight. He picks Mince. Mince wins the controversial four round fight. He collects the $25,000 and Armijo hangs up his gloves and goes home. 4 boxers and two episodes remain...moreless

    • TRIVIA (0)

    • QUOTES (4)

      • Lou Duva: He was grabbing, holding, had him in headlocks. Not once did the referee warn him! Not once did he take a point away! What the hell kind of referee is it for Christ's sake!

      • Larry Holmes: My record speaks for itself. 75 fights, 69 wins with 6 losses. Six of those fights was questionable. 'Cause I didn't lose six of those fights.

      • Lou Duva: (in corner, after rd. 1) Rene, you're following him instead of cutting the ring off on him. Don't follow him! Cut the ring off on him!

      • Larry Holmes: I'll be surprised if David don't win this. I think with his confidence, with his long jabs and the whatever and his punching power. I think David's gonna be fine.

    • NOTES (6)

    • ALLUSIONS (3)

      • Rene: Julio Cesar Chavez started wearing the red headband. He got that Aztec warrior blood. And his corner man said that it brings good fortune and it scares away evil spirits.
Chavez was the World Jr. Welterweight Champ (1989-94). He also held titles as Jr. Lightweight (1984-87) and Lightweight (1987-89). He won over 100 bouts but his 90-bout unbeaten streak ended on 1/29/94 when Frankie Randall won title on split decision. Chavez won title back 4 months later.

      • Gilbert: (to Dave) You're a wanna-be Klitchko.
The Klitchko brothers, Vladimir and Vitaly, are Ukrainian born professional boxers.

      • Larry Holmes: I'm the longest reigning heavyweight champion of the world.
Holmes won his first 48 professional fights, threatening to break Rocky Marciano's record of the most fights undefeated for a world champion (49-0). Holmes won the WBC Heavyweight title on 09 June 1978 by defeating Ken Norton over 15 rounds. He successfully defended the WBC belt until 11 December 1983, when he relinquished that title for the championship of the new International Boxing Federation.
