The O.C.

Season 4 Episode 16

The End's Not Near, It's Here

Aired Thursday 9:00 PM Feb 22, 2007 on FOX

  • Trivia

    • The musical score from the pilot episode is used throughout this episode.

    • When Ryan tells Taylor he just wants to be friends, she answers "Ryan Atwood, mon ami, sounds terrif". She said the same thing in The Summer Bummer, when Ryan suggested they be friends.

    • The Save the California Sea Otter flyer (which may be a reference to Seth's spirit animal) is run by the Friends Aligned To Save Others, aka "FATSO".

    • Kaitlin, Frank and the child are wearing "Team Julie" T-shirts, just like the "Team Bullit" T-shirt Kaitlin wore in the episode "The Case of the Franks".

    • Taylor's date of birth is February 8, 1988.

    • When Taylor is placed onto the Terrorist Watch list at the airport, she is described on the computer screen as:

Deceptively innocent in appearance. Known associates wanted for questioning. Mexico law enforcement may have further info on incident in that country in 2006.

    • The church Julie is supposed to get married in, before they take the wedding to Berkeley, is the same place she married Caleb and the same place his funeral was held. It has appeared in both the first and second season finales.

    • Ryan and Seth hug for the second time ever during this episode. The only other time throughout all four seasons is when Ryan was leaving in The Pilot.

    • Kirsten gives birth to a girl and she and Sandy name her Sophie Rose Cohen.

    • When Taylor meets Summer in the arrival room, there's a man with a sign saying "Schwartz", which is a referral to Josh Schwartz, creator of The O.C.

  • Quotes

    • Seth: We're grandparents? Wow. That's, uh, that's amazing. Congratulations to Pancakes.

    • (Ryan takes Taylor into a room and closes the door so they can talk)
Taylor: Okay, Ryan, what do you want to talk about?
Ryan: Well, I realized that when I talked to you yesterday on the phone I may have been a little insensitive.
      Taylor: (sarcastically) You? Never!
Ryan: I also realized that, if the Cohens do move to Berkeley, we... we may never see each other again.
Taylor: (trying to act like she doesn't care) Hadn't really thought about it.
Ryan: And... when we do say goodbye, I wanted it to be as friends.
Taylor: Friends. (laughs a bit) Sure. Ryan Atwood mon ami. Sounds terrif. (holds out her hand for Ryan to shake.)
(Ryan and Taylor start to shake hands quickly, then slower, then look in each other's eyes as the tension builds between them. Finally, they can't take it anymore. Ryan kisses Taylor, and as they move, Taylor rips open Ryan's shirt.)
Taylor: (about Ryan's buttons) I'll sew those back on for you.
Ryan: (not really caring) Yeah, okay.
(She pushes him on to the bed, and they start making out, when--)
Todd: (coming in through the door) Oh...kay. What is it with you people?

    • Julie: Let me see my flower girl?
      Kirsten: Julie?
Sandy: Are you a runaway bride?
Todd: (bringing out a huge pot of flowers) Kind of a runaway wedding.
Ryan: Wait a minute, does that mean that every... (looks at the door)... body came with you... (sees Summer and Taylor come out the door in their bridesmaids gowns) Uh-oh.

    • Julie: Kirsten had her baby?
Bullit: Yeah, and she says she was sorry that she couldn't be here. Now, are you ready to get hitched?
Julie: I can't get married without Kiki, she's my best friend! I'm sorry, but I'm not doing it without her.
(cut to Todd and Patrick opening the door of the Berkeley house)
Todd and Patrick: (seeing the wedding party outside) Oh my God.
Bullit: One of you wouldn't be a wedding planner, would you?
Todd: (slowly raising his hand) ...actually...

    • Patrick: Alright, move out of the way, it's time for a feeding.
Ryan and Seth: (simultaneously) Oh, she's gonna-- yeah, we should go. (both leave)

    • Sandy: Sophie Rose Cohen. It's got a nice ring to it.
      Kirsten: She's beautiful, isn't she?
Seth: She really will be in two years when she doesn't look like a squished meatball.
Ryan: You just called your sister a squished meatball.
Sandy: Should'a seen what you looked like when you were born.
Kirsten: Oh, he was beautiful, too.
      Seth: Yeah. I was.
Sandy: Yeah, you looked like you went 12 rounds with Joe Frazier.

    • Sandy: We'll be outta here in just a sec.
      Kirsten: (from inside) Sandy!
      Sandy: Or not.
      Kirsten: My water broke.
      Sandy: Seth! Call an ambulance!
Kirsten: There's no time for an ambulance.
Patrick: Okay, this is so random, but I'm actually a midwife.
Kirsten: Good, because this baby's coming now.

    • Todd: (opens the door, smiling) Hello.
      Sandy: Hi!
Todd: (sees Ryan and Seth) Oh...
Sandy: I'm Sandy Cohen, this is my wife, Kirsten, and... we used to live here.
      Todd: I'm Todd...
      Patrick: Patrick.
Todd: and, um, yeah, your sons already told us everything about the earthquake, the hands in the cement, the baby, but, like we said--
Sandy: You don't wanna sell, I get it. But just bein' here again, I gotta say, it still feels like home.

    • Kaitlin: (talking about all Bullit's sons) I mean, I love Bullit, but, one's kind of enough, y'know?
      Julie: You're telling me.
Kaitlin: What are you talking about? You're about to spawn off the latest.
Julie: Well, maybe he won't be... all that Bullit-esque.
Kaitlin: Don't count on it, he's probably gonna come out wearing a cowboy hat telling the doctor "Bang".
      Julie: ...or a wifebeater.
Kaitlin: Why would he be wearing a wifebea... Oh, my God, mom...

    • Tom: (gives Seth another flyer for Summer) Well, um, give her this, would ya? I hate to see someone like Summer just... waste their passion.
Seth: Yeah. (Tom leaves) She loves otters.

    • (Seth is given a flayer about GEORGE)
Seth: Hey, are you Paul from GEORGE?
Tom: No, Tom from GEORGE. You know Paul?

    • Summer: (gasps) Pancakes had babies! When did this happen?
Taylor: You didn't know she was pregnant?
Summer: I didn't even know he was a she. Oh my God... I'm a bad crack mother!

    • (Summer picks Taylor up at the airport)

Taylor: Did you come alone? (looks around)
Summer: Ryan doesn't know that you're coming. (Taylor nods) You told me not to tell him.
Taylor: (gets suitcase and starts walking) Who said anything about Ryan? We're so over, I just-- I can't even believe we ever even dated. Y'know? I don't even think I would recognize him. I just hope he shaved that mustache-- (sees Seth and Ryan walking towards them)
Seth: Did you get the rental car?
Ryan: Yeah. Did you get the address?
      Seth: Yeah.
(The guys see the girls and everyone stops)
Taylor: Ryan. Found out I was coming and decided to surprise me?
Ryan: (in complete shock) Nnnno, I didn't know you were coming back and I'm leaving.
Summer: Oh, well, now I'm surprised. Where are you guys going?
Ryan: Oh, not far. We'll be back... by tonight.
Seth: Yeah. It's a mission, I'm gonna call you.
Taylor: Okay, well, brilliant catching up.
      Ryan: Good to see you.
      (The guys walk off)
Seth: That wasn't awkward at all.
Ryan: No, no, why would it be. It's not like I'm still in love with her or anything. (looks back)
      Summer: Taylor, are you okay?
Taylor: (visibly upset) No, I'm not. I'm still in love with him.

    • Seth: Ryan! Come in, sit.
Ryan: (looks around Seth/Summer's room) Yeah, not gonna happen. But I do need your help... with a plan.
Seth: Does it involve leaving this room?
Ryan: It involves... leaving the city.

    • Blonde woman: Not to pressure you but the owners are expecting other offers.
Bullet: Oh, what the hell, blondie! I'll buy this house.

    • Seth: What was that? There IS no other Taylor Townsend? There's only one and you're in love with her?
      Ryan: Alright
Seth: Listen, you haven't said a word since we bumped into her which I know means you can't stop thinking about her.
Ryan: I'm gonna get some coffee.
Seth: You love her, I know it!
      Ryan: Stop it!
      Seth: I know it!

    • Seth: I've been doing some checking-up on your new roommate. His favorite book and movie are Da Vinci Code. He's no me.
Ryan: You say that like it's a bad thing.
Seth: At least I leave you funnier than when I found you.
Ryan: I'm a lot better off than when you found me.
      Seth: Me too.

    • Kaitlin (to Frank): All I want is for my mom to be happy and for my little brother to have his dad around, but not if he's gonna be a coward!
(Kaitlin walks away, then turns around)
Kaitlin: You know, I thought Atwoods were good at fighting.

    • Ryan(Last line, to a teenage kid looking slightly like Ryan himself): Hey kid, need any help?

    • Summer: Just remember, this isn't goodbye. You're my destiny, Cohen!
Seth: Go save the world, Summer Roberts!

    • Summer: Aw, real-life Jake broke up with real-life April!
      Taylor: What are you doing?
Summer: Well, I told Seth I wouldn't watch Briefcase or No Briefcase until he got home, so I'm reading about The Valley.
Taylor: Oh my God, that show's still on?
Summer: It's got picked up for 5 more seasons. You know, these teen dramas, they just run forever.

    • Sandy: Julie, crêpe?
Julie: I think I'm too nauseous to eat.
      Kirsten: Morning sickness?
Julie: Or wedding jitters, who can tell?
Kirsten: Well, your fianceé is certainly excited about the nuptials.
Julie: Yeah, he's kind of become a broken record, over and over again, he keeps saying--
      Bullit: Bang! Hey, Sandy!
      Sandy: Bullit!
Bullit: Ryan, Peanut. Hey, Blondie. And there she is, the future Mrs. Gordon Bullit.

    • Ryan: Taylor sent Kaitlin a griddle from France.
Kaitlin: With a super long note how I need to broaden my breakfast horizons. She's 6000 miles away and still annoying.
Kirsten: Ryan, have you talked to her?
Ryan: Oh, no, haven't read her blog, haven't looked at her scrapbook, it's over and I am OK. It's been months, I barely even think about her.
Sandy: Even though you're living in her room.

    • Bullit: (talking about Julie) Oh man, that woman's like nailing Jell-O to a wall.
