Thinking that he'll be put into foster care, Ryan attempts to run away from the Cohens, but is stopped when Seth figures out his plan. However, Seth doesn't want to lose his only friend, so he hatches a plan to keep Ryan in Newport. Marissa insists on going along with the plan and even driving. Seth, with the help of Marissa, hides Ryan in an unfinished home in Kirsten's newest housing development. Marissa and Ryan both share stories of their very dysfunctional families. Marissa, Ryan, and Seth work on fixing up the development so it is suitable to live in. Meanwhile, Sandy and Kirsten find Ryan missing, resulting in more arguments about Sandy having Ryan stay with them. Kirsten agrees to give Jimmy the 100,000 dollars that he needs. Marissa wants to spend the night with Ryan, since it will be his last. But he tells her that if she spends the night, he may not want to leave at all. He tells her to go, and she leaves crying. Luke followed Marissa to where Ryan was staying. It results in a bloody brawl, and a fire in the housing development. Luke feels remorse about what happened and takes Ryan back to the Cohens where the cops are waiting. They make a deal not to say anything. Except when Ryan is being taken away in handcuffs, Luke speaks up and says it was an accident. They both get put into the cop car, and Sandy informs them both not to say anything without him being present.
