This was the last epsoide of S1, it has been a wonderful series to watch and definatly one of the highlight for 2004 tv viewers, good news we only have to wait 2 months for S2 which is brillant, this was thankful summer break otherwise we might have to wait longer.

Let start with Kirsten, she didn't like Ryan at the begaining but after he left it showed how much he has affected her life and Seth ( chat about later on). i really hate the way she manipulated Sandy into making peace with with her father, lucky guy getting kissed 4 times and it was funny when Ryan,Tressa and Seth walked in and tresa said she was pregant, we also found out kirsten had a teenage pregancy, shame she had an abotion otherwise we could have a wonder S2 clifhanger with that grown-up kid at her door-step.

The wedding, did it get cut or something , where were vows?, Celeb mansion wow shame he going to be broke, Julie going to be mad when she finds out, Sandy really rubbed it into celeb the only reason Julie is marrying him is because he's loaded. i think Celeb downfall will make S2 a lot more watchable.

Seth, one of goofiest kid in the OC, Ryan was his best friend, he's right before Ryan he was nobody, kinda of felt bad about Seth but running away was not the best plan but i understand where he's coming from, i don't think even Summer could stop him anyway i hope he get what he's looking for. was seth right about accusing Marrisa about Oliver incident, he did make a good point though.

This was one hell sad epsoide but i didn't cry, it was sad but i manage to watch it objectively because i knew what was going to happend, damn spoliers.

  • This is one of the best episodes of this show, but the most tragic at the same time.

    10
This is one of my most favourite episodes of the whole show. Yet it is also one of my most least favourite. This episode is so fantastic yet so tragic at the same time.

I did not like the Theresa storylines at all, mostly because I didn't like her. When Kirsten basically convinced her out of having an abortion I could have screamed. But it got worse when Theresa said to Ryan 'Then come with me'. The Julie/Caleb wedding. 'The most unholy of unions'. Tragic. After seeing the Ryan/Marissa scene on the dance floor I am never more convinced that they were meant to be, the chemistry and the anquish along with the song playing. Amazing.

Ryan leaving is so terrible. The heartbreak it causes and all for stupid Theresa. I felt so sorry for Seth, he was so sweet to try and help and sell his boat. I loved the reminisent scenes where Ryan gave Seth back the map that Seth gave him in the beggining and the driving away scene where Ryan and Marissa watch each other as he drives away.

The last 5 minutes are amazing, Seth leaving, Ryan leaving, Marissa all alone and Kirsten in the poolhouse crying. All to 'Hallelujah' by Jeff Buckley. The music in this episode is perfect. I have watched this episode many times, but it still makes me cry... It also makes me miss The O.C and how it used to be.moreless
  • more than 5 years later, and this episode still makes me cry.

more than 5 years later, and this episode still makes me cry. I've watched it a few times and it always makes me miss The OC. Not only that but the music, and just the way this episode comes to an end. It's so beautiful and yet so tragic and sad. It brings me to tears even years later. Just thinking about it makes me a little teary eyed, because I can remember all those moments like seeing Marissa standing outside the Cooper house, and Kirsten crying... omg! Kirsten crying is where I cry the most. I loved this show.moreless
  • "I'm not saying goodbye, I'm saying good luck."

    9.0
Not the happiest way to end a season, but definitely a great way to cap off the first season of The O.C. Just so many things happened and although it didn't leave off on the best note, it was tear jerking and heart wrenching. Ryan leaving to Chino has affected everyone. Kirsten has been pouring tears after Ryan left with Theresa, Marissa is going back to drinking away her problems--though living with Caleb and Julie has a huge say in that--and Seth appears to have went soul hunting for a while in Tahiti. Though most of the episode following up to the ending was a wee bit disappointing. Not much happened and it's as if it was all set up to create a tear jerking ending, but you know what? It was worth it. Onto season 2!moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (8)

    • Kirsten and Julie mention Caleb's black eye, but in the episode "The Strip," it is shown and mentioned that Jimmy punched Caleb in the mouth, not the eye.

    • In this episode, we learn that Kirsten once had an abortion.

    • When Ryan leaves Newport, he is wearing the same outfit he arrived in one year before. He also watches Marissa at the end of her driveway as he did the first time he left Newport. It's kind of like a flashback.

    • In the Pilot episode, while saying goodbye, Seth gave Ryan a map of the Pacific Ocean. Symbolically, In The Ties That Bind, while saying goodbye again, Ryan returned Seth his map.

    • Goof: There would be no valid contract between Marissa and Caleb because Marissa would have a legal defense to that contract. Her defense would be coercion.

    • Goof: When Theresa is in the poolhouse getting ready to leave for work, she is seen putting her right earing in (she was not wearing a left earing). When Kirsten comes into the poolhouse, the shot changes right back to Theresa, who is now wearing a left earing, while trying to put in the right one again.

    • Goof: When Ryan walks into Seth's room towards the end of the episode, Seth takes off his earbuds and picks up his portable music player. In the next shot, however, the music player magically disappears from Seth's hands, and is only slightly visible on his lap.

    • Goof: Why is Marissa still moving in with her mother and Caleb?
One would think that once Jimmy cashes Caleb's money, Caleb could not get it back. It is unlikely that Marissa feels morally compelled to remain where she is miserable. Why would she not just leave? Caleb would not be able to sue Marissa for breach of verbal contract, as she is a minor.

  • QUOTES (22)

  • NOTES (6)

    • The church in which Caleb and Julie get married is The Wayfarers Chapel in Ranchos Palos Verdes, CA.

    • The final scene features the first five cast members from the opening credits. Julie and Summer are not seen.

    • Adam Brody hates being in the water, so a stunt person was used in the final scene. The person on the boat is actually a 45 year old man in a wig.

    • Jem performs live at the wedding. It's the only recorded performance she did for "Maybe I'm Amazed," which is a cover of Paul McCartney's hit.

    • Music:
      "Flying High" by Jem
      "Orange Sky" by Alexi Murdoch
      "Montserrat" by Orquesta del Plata
"The Sea and The Rhythm" by Iron & Wine
      "Bridal March" by CAR 188
"Here Comes The Bride" by APM
      "Maybe I'm Amazed" by Jem
      "Hallelujah" by Jeff Buckley

    • This episode has also been referred to as "The Wedding."
