    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    • TRIVIA (1)

      • Oscar says an army cot was Blanche's and his wedding bed. This is the first indication of Oscar's revised wedding story, later fleshed out in "That Is the Army, Mrs. Madison." Previously, Oscar had variously made it sound like he was at home and trying to watch an All Star baseball game or he had been married on Christmas day.

    • QUOTES (11)

      • Monty Hall: Felix and Oscar would like to donate the $1000 to their favorite orphanage.
Felix: No! No! I'll make a deal with the orphans. No, I'm kidding. You know I'm kidding. I'm an orphan myself. (waves to camera) Hi, Mom!

      • Monty Hall: Now that you have the $800, maybe you'd be interested in trading the $800 for one of our three curtains because the Big Deal today is worth over $5000.
        Oscar: Noooo!
        Felix: Yes! Yes!
Monty Hall: The yesses have it two to one.

      • (Oscar tries to hide under his horse costume)
Monty Hall: Oscar, what are you doing now? Covering the races from the inside?

      • Felix: (in horse costume) Let's make a deal! Let's make a deal, Monty! Let's make a deal!
Monty Hall: This horse is a nag!

      • Oscar: I don't know what's happening to me. A week ago, I was a happy sportswriter. Today, I'm the back end of Mr. Ed.

      • Felix: If this doesn't work, I'll be humiliated in front of 30 million people.
Oscar: That's a chance I'm willing to take.

      • Miriam: I came down, Oscar, to thank you for those tickets.
        Oscar: Oh, that's okay.
Felix: Tickets to what? The Chicago fire?

      • Felix: That was a custom-made mattress.
        Oscar: Custom-made?
Felix: Yes! You know how they come in soft, regular, firm and very firm? Well, mine was very firm around the edges and soft in the center. It was the only one like it in the world.
Oscar: Well, why don't we get a very firm mattress and I'll jump in the middle?

      • Oscar: Tomorrow, you'll go and buy a bed. I saw one advertised for $55.
Felix: What kind of bed can you buy for $55?
        Oscar: Hardly used!

      • Oscar: Didn't you sleep on one of these in the army?
Felix: I did not! I had an orthopedic cot. I bought it special in the PX. The other guys made fun of me, but I'm the one who won the "good posture" medal.

      • Felix: Keep the squid!
Oscar: Who are you, Jacques Cousteau?
