  • Trivia

  • Quotes

    • Oscar: Felix, don't ever relax. 'Cause if I see you dozing for one second, I'm gonna kill you.

    • Oscar: Why don't you take them to a nice, warm, dry movie?
Felix: There are five movies in this neighborhood -- four Xs and an R. You want to to sing Happy Birthday to my 10 year-old daughter while two people are groaning in Swedish?

    • Edna: You make a lot of mistakes, don't you? All those Xs.
Oscar: Those aren't Xs, those are kisses for my editor.

    • Edna: How can you be a writer if you don't know how to spell?
Oscar: Spelling's got nothing to do with writing.
Edna: Mrs. Lang says spelling is very important.
Oscar: Well, you tell Mrs. Lang it's impossible to spell and write at the same time.

    • Edna: There's nothing good on TV.
Oscar: This is New York. There are 52 channels! I know -- I heard 'em all today.

    • Edna: (on first seeing Oscar's room) How can you live like this?
      Oscar: I practice.

  • Notes

    • Writers Everett Greenbaum and Jim Fritzell's only script for "The Odd Couple." The pair contributed the most amount of scripts throughout their prolific careers to "The Andy Griffith Show." In this episode, they are reunited with former Andy Griffith cast member Hal Smith, who played Otis the town drunk on that show.

    • Between 1974 and 1979, Fritzell and Greenbaum wrote several episodes for "M*A*S*H".

  • Allusions

    • Oscar: Could you stick to one channel instead of all that changing? I feel like I'm living in a time tunnel.

In this early instance of channel surfing, Oscar is referring to the 1966 Irwin Allen science fiction series, The Time Tunnel, where the characters quickly jumped from era to era.
