  • an average episode, about relationships, love and the afterlife

    6.7
the episode in itself is somewhat week. this story marks one of the first times Felix tries to get back with his wife Gloria. Oscar tries to help Felix become less fussy, making him sleep under a pile of garbage, throwing things on the floor, and in essence, being more of an "average" human being. the result of course is total chaos, because Felix goes into a state of shock that causes a radical change of personality, that's too rude, even for Oscars standards. perhaps the highlights of this episode are the dream sequences, one with Oscar in Felix in Heaven, and the flashback to Felix's childhood. also note the 1st of 2 appearences of Grandpa Unger (played also by Tony Randall).

an average episode. not as good as most OC, but with hints of quality throughout.moreless

    • Felix: (in dream, as new arrival meeting angel Oscar in heaven) Oscar, what a wonderful surprise! I haven't seen you since the day you were run over by the garbage truck.
Oscar: Yeah, that was an ironic way to go, wasn't it?

    • Felix: Why is cleanliness so unpopular? It's next to godliness!
Oscar: Then save it for when you get to heaven.

    • Oscar: You told me in college you were on the boxing team. You were never knocked down.
Felix: I wouldn't permit myself to be knocked down. Filthy canvas!

    • Granpa Unger: (to young Felix) If there're two things nobody likes, it's a dirty old man and a clean little boy.

    • Felix: I'll never sleep again. I'm too upset.
Oscar: Why don't you go in and brood with your eyes closed?
Felix: You're right. Don't worry about me. I'll survive.
      Oscar: Yeah, but I won't.

    • Felix: Gloria's a wonderful person, but when it comes to housekeeping, bats keep their caves cleaner.

    • Oscar: Felix sets a meal down and then he stands over me. He says, "How is it?" I say it's great. He says, "Just great?" I say, "No, Felix. It's sensational." He says, "Just sensational?" I say, "Felix, it's the best meal I've ever had in my whole life!" He says, "Don't talk with your mouth full."

    • The episode takes its title from the 1941 novel What Makes Sammy Run? by Budd Schulberg.

    • Oscar: You know, Felix, with you, being in love is always having to say you're sorry.

This is a reference to the dialog and tag line from the 1970 motion picture, Love Story: "Love means never having to say you're sorry."
