  • The best episode ever! Blending humour with sadness, silliness , kisses and much more!

Red Nose Day was the setting in this excellent episode of The Office and everybody was doing something for the people. Gareth was hopping, Tim was stealing Gareth's possessions, Dawn is selling kisses and Brent...well Brent is posing with a ostrich.

This episode was not like the episodes where nothing happens, but it is fun. Huge things happened and still it was the funniest episode of the series. The episode started with a normal Comic Relief day, everybody was doing something (or wearing something, like Keith in his Ali G costume) but the day started to change...

Just a small note: The cameo of Stephen Merchant was just great. I laughed a lot when he started to cry after Brent said: "Let's grow ourselves a big lanky goggle-eyed freak of a son." just to "join in".

The most romantic moment arrived and Dawn and Tim finally kissed! It was not a normal kiss, it was for Comic Relief, but the kiss from the lips showed us (and Tim) that Dawn had something else in her mind than Lee.

The funniest part was after Neil and Rachel's dance. Brent got jealous and did his own thing by mixing Flashdance and MC Hammer. The dance was just fantastic, and no matter what others said, I liked it...

It was not an "all-fun" day in the office. In the last minutes we learned that Ricky was fired and that was sad, really. His expressions showed a lot and when he was out there with the ostrich, his face looked devastated. Anyway, as I've said before, this episode was far the best. The acting (Tim's confusion, Brent's dance and then his sadness and Dawn's face) was just perfect and it is sad to see that only three more episodes are left in the DVD...moreless

Ali Keith is a hilarious addition to the humour that is Red Nose Day at the Office. Other highlights include Gareth's hopping, Tim hiding Gareth's office belongings and of course Brent's dance, which cracks me up every time I see his impromptu routine.

One of the funniest scenes that weren't planned by the characters for Red Nose Day was Gareth saying disabled people should be tested to see if they really are disabled by pretending there's a fire and leaving them there which is a classic Gareth moment and of course the episode ends with the revelation that David Brent is fired, just before he was about to do something that would usually crack him up, which leaves people in suspense as to what will happen in the next episode.moreless

  • Sad way to end what should be a funny day.

After Brent says "Who says famine has to be depressing" I knew I was in for one funny episode.

Its red nose day and everyone is getting inon the act. Dawn's selling kisses for a pound, Gareth's hopping everywhere, Keith is dressed as Ali G (and looked hilarious)

Tim isn't really into it. When he's talking at the same time as when an employee is having his pants pulled down is great. "Today is all about dignity"

Later on Tim stole everything from Gareth's desk for charity. Which was great!

Tim and Dawn shared a kiss which was great to watch! There was an awkwardness to it, but you could tell there is passion between them.

Neil and Rachel did a dance.

and then came one of the most memorable yet excruciating moments of the series. "Brent's dance" I don't know how Ricky Gervais came up with this dance but it was so funny and so embarrassing to watch at the same time. (It has to be seen to be believed!)

The episode ends on a sour note with Brent being told he has been made redundant. He sort of hides his emotions with it being a day about laughter (and hes dressed like and ostrich)

It is in Episode 6 that he becomes emotional and its an even sadder ending (for several reasons) than this episode.moreless

  • Heartbreakingly funny and sad

I have given up thinking that I know how "The Office" works and that I can't be surprised by it anymore. With every episode I see, I become more fascinated and surprised, and this is no exception. It is a real highlight among many highlights.

The whole idea of having the Red Nose Day in the office makes you afraid, because we know David Brent's sense of humor and if he's really allowed to be funny, we fear the worst. But actually he is the same as always, making his jokes no one is laughing about but him, completely ignoring the cause. But look at their faces at the beginning of the episode. They really seem to enjoy it.

Still, the dark side, as always, lurks beneath the jokes and the harmony, as David wants to make it his day. There's Finch being as filthy as possible, Gareth completely lacking the brains to understand humor, Keith going over the top with his Ali G-appearance while still being a lifeless brick. Watching them undress one of their coworkers, laughing manically, basically torturing him shows everything about them and their idea of humor.

And of course there's Tim. Probably more than in any episode, his silent looks say everything that needs to be said. It can't be said enough, without him the show would fall apart because you would simply despair.

The episode has a lot of laughs. David and Gareth's dealing with disabled people is just beyond belief. Keith explaining to Rachel the difference between US and UK is brilliant.

The kiss between Dawn and Tim is so well done, so perfectly acted, their reactions do everything you want to see, it's just perfect.

And then there is the end. I can't stop saying how amazingly Gervais and Merchant manage to combine the funny with the sad. How else can you describe the moment as David presents his bird costume just as he's being fired? You want to laugh, because it looks so silly, but you can't, since you know how devastated he feels in that moment. It couldn't be done better. He even lacks the power to be really angry. Gervais is making it crystal clear just how weak David Brent really is and, honestly, it just broke my heart. He is such a mean bastard but even after all he has said and done, you just have to pity him there.

It is not the funniest episode, but surely the saddest and therefore I simply adore it.moreless

    • The ITV digital monkey has a clown's nose. Edit
    • Continuity Error: David seems to have never met Oggy before, however, in the first episode we know that David went out with Garreth's mates, and Garreth says, "I'm thinking of going out with Oggy again tonight," thus implying he went out with him the night before, with David, therefore Episode 11 should not be their first meeting. Edit
    • Jennifer says they will put in a proper meeting tomorrow to discuss David's redundancy package. But they were raising funds for Comic Relief, which is always on Fridays, which means that "tomorrow" would be Saturday, which seems highly unlikely for putting in a meeting. Edit

    • (Gareth says there should be tests to make sure that the people who claim to be disabled really are) Gareth: When they go down to the DSS to make a claim, then they should set off a fire alarm, a fake fire alarm - everyone legs it out the office, leaving them there. If they're fake, they'll be up running with you. If they're real, they'll be left there screaming for help. (Tim stares in disbelieve) Then you just come back in and say "It's alright, don't cry.
